Today I spent about five hours boarding around the mountain, and I was not the only out enjoying the day's excellent conditions. The sun was shining, and the ski resort was packed. I don't think I've seen real lines on the Kitanomine side for the Gondola this year (which was up and running again yesterday), but today, people were out in droves, and rightly so. The temperature hovered around -5 degrees for the majority of the midday hours, but with all that sun it felt like spring.

Yesterday, the texture of the snow had a rough quality to it that made it less enjoyable than usual, but even though we didn't get any new snow to speak of overnight, it felt like a new mountain. The ungroomed black diamond runs are the place to go if you are looking for practically untouched snow. There were still piles of powder to be had on the lesser-travelled runs, which should be supplemented by snow showers forecasted for later this evening. Temperatures will fall slightly overnight, but it will remain relatively mild throughout the rest of Sunday. The wind made it up to about 3 m/s, but with the clear skies you will be too busy enjoying the scenery to notice. Happy skiing!
