Lots of new snow, but warm temps and R@!N!!!!! (That's rain, for those not familiar with my code word. I avoid typing it when at all possible...bad karma.)

It's hard to say how much snow has actually fallen, as it was very windy last night, so some places have drifts up to 50 cm, next to areas that are essentially bare. Here in Furano, we would say "a fair bit" of snow came down. I'll call it 20 cm+, and resume shoveling.

The awful news is that is indeed quite warm, with high temps up to +5 C today. It's already raining, the snow is very heavy. It may still be below freezing on top, so the top part of the mountain may have some fun powder, but the bottom definitely does not.

The next part of the awful news is that due to a windy morning, all lifts except one were temporarily closed. The Ropeway is now open, but the Gondola is still closed. But the only reason to ski in the rain is if you're desperate. Just go to the onsen, read a book, watch a movie, or take a nap.

It will cool back down tonight, and more snow is forecast to fall through Monday. So things might improve.

Think Snow. Think Powder. Think a bit colder temps.
