This morning I awoke to a Furano absolutely buried in snow. The powder is extremely light and dry following yesterday's bitter cold, so it makes for easy windshield clearing for those of you that have to get out and about today. If this is excellent shoveling weather, then it should be even better for skiing. It has snowed at least 11cm here down in the village since 7:00 this morning, and it is continuing to come down in buckets.

Up on the ski slopes, the officially reported snow depth of 80cm is probably more like 90cm+ now, complete with a lovely fresh layer of fine, powdery snow. Unfortunately, these conditions are not likely to continue through the late afternoon, according to the weather forecast. It has been hovering below freezing all day, but the weather is supposed to take a warm turn this afternoon, changing to a dicy wintry mix, and finally ending in a dreary rain before tapering off in the early evening. If you fresh power fans are thinking about getting in some good skiing today, the next few hours should be the best time to hit the slopes, as long as you don't mind a bit of wind at your back.
