Tetley 0
I'm new to Japan and looking forward to my first winter season, next season! I have lots of questions and this place seems like a good place to start. A lot of reading! My skis are going to be coming over here in summer, I was wondering how well equipped the trains are here to cope with all the skiers/boarders? Do they have lots of storage space at all on popular ski trains, or is it just a complete mess with everyone just fighting for space?
merryJim 1
The space available on a shinkansen up to Niigata is laughable - enough for about 4 sets of skis. Apart from that its just fight-for-your-space time.
mattlucas 0
I just came back from a ski trip to Canada about 2 weeks ago and was riding the local train from Nagoya to my town of Takayama. It started out as super busy and I have a huge ski bag that was loaded with gear. Pretty heavy and then a big backpack. I just forced my way into the train dropped my bag and was generally in the way. It was standing room only and everybody was tripping over my gear trying to get out. Take that Japan But for the last 2 hours of the trip I was by myself and sleeping in a comfy local train seat.
OnTheTin 0
Right, basically there is no extra space.
BagOfCrisps 24
This was one of the least fun parts of our stay in Japan - we had too much luggage for the trains.
damian 0
Lets be honest, the Japanese ski resorts are not really designed for skis or snowbaords, so the chances of a train being thus designed are sweet F.A.
damian 0
In fact everything in this country is designed for appearance and not function. This blanket statement may or may not apply to the women folk.
