nzlegend 1
seems that in Finland you get fined for minor law related offences as a % of your income! so when rich guys get fined its astronomical! this poor chap who earned 11 million Euros last year got slapped with a 170,000 euro speeding fine! Imagine if Bill Gates lived there! and gotta ticket! he'd be forking out 100 million for a lousy speeding ticket. That Finnish law is Harsh
snowboard_freak 0
Dang thats crazy. But at least it means that the rich will actually be a bit more careful. If a fine is like $100, it means nothing to someone who earns millions of dollars a year, but take a larger percentage of that and suddenly the fine isnt so small. Not a bad idea, but im glad im not living in Finland, not that i earn much money anyway.

enderzero 0
Those Scandanavians sure know how to make socialism work. I think Scandanavians are on average the happiest people on the planet, or something like that.

js 0
Infingements based on a percentage of income is very fair - punishes all economic classes equally. As far as considering all scandanavians to be happy and broad thinkers, consider these: 1. How much does a beer and a steak cost in Norway, Sweden and Finland - LOTS! (Low happiness factor there!) 2. 'Monty Python's Life of Brian was initially banned in Norway for blasphemy. It wasn't released there until 1980. Subsequently, it has been marketed in Sweden as "The film that is so funny that it was banned in Norway!"' The world is a funny place - we just need to survive it!
stepchild 0
The Life of Brian was also banned in England for a number of years. Scandinavian countries always feature very, very high in the quality of life indexes that come out every year. The suicide rate is really high in Finland, i think it's Finland, because they have so much darkness over the winter that everyone hits the bottle hard and it gets pretty depressing. that's what my girl tells me. she's a skandi, from iceland and pretty damn happy. from what i know about scandinavian countries the system works pretty well. good health care for everyone and a pretty equal distribution of wealth. fine ladies too!
