I can say for sure that it won't be a lot of powder It is always funny to see the race amongst the prince 'resorts' as to who will open first. Apparently, it cost hundreds of thousands of dallars to run the snow making machines so that these places can open early. Link to post Share on other sites
Markie 0 Posted October 29, 2004 Share Posted October 29, 2004 Karuizawa usually can open whenever it wants to because there are snow cannons every 10 meters. Which means they usually have a thick icy underlayer because a lot of the early season artifical snow melts and freezes as ice. As long as they keep piling the new snow on, its OK but once the cannons stop conditions are variable. It's actual very pleasant for beginners. The weather there is usually fine and not much wind and fairly warm....about 2 - 7 C below zero. Link to post Share on other sites
