damian 0
I miss the following things: - Yakiniku. I really miss it. I crave it. I miss eating yakiniku. Yakiniku in Tokyo was far better than in Seoul. - Good miso soup. Especially the dark one with little shells and small soft bits of tofu and not much else. - Yuba tofu. I miss sitting on the tatami in a quiet little yuba restaurant in Kyoto with my Japanese friend on a sunny day, Sakura in the garden and the sliding walls opened up so that the breeze was flowing in and the Sakura in full view. We hardly even spoke, we just didn't need to talk verbally to actually speak about the setting, it was strange. I only did this once but I would repeat it in a flash. I recommend you seek out one of the silent moments in Japan. I miss the chance to be able to do it again. - I miss not being able to read or understand any of the advertising on the street or tv. My mind is now constantly assaulted by insulting crapolla. There was plenty of it in Japan but I was immune by language to the assault. Here I am constantly working my brain to try and block out all the noise. In Japan the noise was all fuzz before but now I am in an English place the noise has become signal and it gets into the brain. Where else can you expect to find world famous electrical brands and the lowest prices? You deserve cheaper insurance, get it online at....... when applied as a paste it gets out even the toughest stains at the best price. - It kills me to say this but I miss the huge amount of attractive women with good bodies and who are prone to being confident and seemingly happy and adventurous and don't start a conversation with a high pitched "hiya" or "YouAllRight" (pronounced more like "you-or-white"). I didn't mix it at all with the J girls but it was comforting to know that they were there. This post is designed to make up for all my 'I don't like Japan' vibe in the past. I do like my new place though. Plenty to let the city down but also plenty more of the great stuff.
big-will 7
Good to hear. Seems like you really really want to come back? Maybe. Still lots of mashed potato girls then?
Dims 0
Well I never Actually deebs, I am going through this same train of thought but I haven't even left yet, leaving in leass than two weeks. There will be a lot of things a will miss about this country, including great snow, great friends and a good solid income. However I am usually happy wherever I go as long as I can meet cool people, get the odd outdoor adrenilne rush and have a choof and a drink. So I should be OK. There must be some hotties running around London though surely? Some of my friends had good reports after living there for a while, but maybe they are full of shit
damian 0
London population = 100 of that women = 50 of that decent age = 20 of that correct body = 10 of that correct face = 3 And I miss the great gyoza place where the staff wore blue adidas soccer shirts. It is sort of behind the Chanel shop off Omote Sando. I ate there so many times.
Davo 1
You can have gyoza at Wagamama but it's about four quid for six, or something ridiculous like that. Lots of good looking girls in London imo and more variety than Japan. However, the ratio of good looking girls does seem higher here for sure. Considering your stats db carrying a paper bag would make 10% of the girly population shaggable .
woywoy 0
I see what you are saying deebs. Its the same when you go home for a while too ... Harajuku Gyoza. What a top joint! I reckon the thai next door is pretty ordinary though.
slow 0
I tried to help you out with good miso soup in London. This place used to be Tsukuba and had very good Japanese Teishoku menu (Oyako-don, Yaki zakana...) for lunch. My school was very close and I was very happy to find this restaurant. However, Tsukuba closed and now kulu kulu, Sushi restaurant? But it seems like you can still have good Japanese food there. Gyoza is easy to make at home and tastes much better than buy, db. I'm sure that you can get ingredients (Gyoza no kawa, minced pork, ginger, cabbage, nira, miso or shoyu) at China town.
Fattwins 0
I use a head of cabbage lots of garlic 4 to 6 colves, 3 leaks, an onion, shitake a handfull, use the food processor to get it chopped fine. db make sure you par bowl the cabbage then press the the water out as much as you can before copping it. the skins will be the hardest to find. damian 0
Oh yeah, I can make pretty good gyoza, done it a few times already since I have been here. I just liked that one particular place that specialised in them, it's great! Especially the ginger soup stuff and the spicy minch and bean shoot-don Slow, thanks for the research. There are a few sushi places that serve it I suppose. I actually know how to make dashi quite well (not the instant stuff either, the real stuff) so I just need to track down some miso paste and I will start making it at home every now and then. As for girls, there are nice ones here just like any city but the ratio is lower than I have seen in most places. I think what I notice the most (rather than miss) is that in Japan girls were part of the street scape, part of the city's tempo. 'Japanese Girls' is a specific collective noun that carries some meaning. Outside of that, every city has a standard allotment of ok girls. Nothing wrong with this city, just that it isn't a feature like it is in Japanese cities.
slow 0
I am impressed, Fattwins and db make Gyoza at home! Thank you for your compliment about Japanese Girls. My colleague told me same thing when he came back from Shanghai. Compliment always work for women. So, which country has a high ratio of goodlooking men?

Fattwins 0
I love to cook. I cook everyday. Make my own soft taco shells, make my own pizza crust. Cooking is a hobby I can do everyday, I dont know if I could do it as a career though too much time. It think the things I would miss about Japan if I left would be.... The fact I can ski or kayak close to home. The powder need I say more. the silence of the mind tune out as db said and lastly the fact that at 5'7 Im not short here.

I noted a large proportion of good looking guys in Sweden. But then I also noted that men, women, children, elderly.... all were kind of fit and healthy and good looking in Sweden. I feel sorry for girls. In nearly all places I have been there is a noticeable lack of attractive guys. Sydney used to be shocking; heaps of nice girls and limited guys. Those that were ok were either ******s or gay or went to Tokyo and then onto London. I have heard a few girls mentioning Scotland as a good source of attractive manliness. Never been myself so can't comment. I have also heard similiar things about South Africans.
