damian 0
My boyish urges are beating me and I want a Swiss Army Knife. I cant decide which one to get. I like the "Climber" as it has scissors, a big blade and a small blade and isn't encumbered with the silly nail file. But then the "Huntsman" has a cool serrated knife. The things in the multitool range are worth checking out as well. http://www.victorinox.ch/newsite/en/produkte/index.htm
slow 0
Hi db! Mine is Spartan, beautiful Alps design. Very simple and just enough for me. Do you need scissors? Are those scissors useful??
spook 0
i've always wondered if the swiss army actually use the knives... get one with scissors, i have one of those mini keychain ones with scissors, and i find it pretty useful. i also have a normal sized knife, but really, how often to you carry the thing around? or you could get one of those leatherman things, the pliers come in quite handy. js 0
I considered getting a SAK a few years back, but before I made a decision my Bro bought me a Leatherman as a Christmas present. Wouldn't consider a SAK after using the Leatherman - it's heavier, but this reflects its durability and wide range of uses. Horses for courses - if considering the XXLT, may as well get a Leatherman (probably less bulky and lighter!).
big-will 7
What do you all need them for, by the way?

mfurmane 0
I have a Leatherman multi-tool thingamajiggy. Looks a lot like the Swisstool and would highly recommend something like this. As said above...the pliers are very handy for all sorts of things.
joshnii 2
For example? I can't think of any time in the last year I would need one.
miteyak 0
Leatherman, kicks ass over swiss army knife, great for BC repairs, etc. used it for climbing, cycle touring, BC skiing, etc. Tough, durable, bla, bla, bla... Slightly less useful if you're looking for a post climb manicure at the local organic coffee lounge, however...
Snowhaus 0
Funny. I've had two leathermen and they have both broken, but I've used the same swiss army knife for 10 years and never had a drama. Could I have just been unlucky??
miteyak 0
I, too have had two SAK's for over twenty years, never broken, but I wouldn't even consider/isn't possible to use a swiss army knife the way one would use a leatherman. Blade for blade, the swiss army knife, I think, might be stronger, but the leatherman seems to hold a sharper edge. The pliers are the biggest plus point, however, and invaluable in all sorts of repair situ's, much more useful than just a blade.
mogski 0
On a quick stock take I have the: Swiss Champ Explorer Escort Nomad (Except mine has a serated knife with lock) I am not a knife crazy person, just I either forget to take them on explorations with me and so I end up getting another. I carry the Escort with me all the time on my keys and has come in so handy. A legacy from my pipe smoking grandfather I guess. He used to have a similar knife that he used for cleaning out the tabacco from his pipe. The Swiss Champ is the ultimate. Not a situation it can't handle. I have to agree with miteyak on the sharpness issue. My Explorer, which I have had for over 10+ years now can't even cut a piece of paper or slice through masking tape. It's probably not called the Explorer, but the variety set up is the same so possibly the predecessor. All real men have SAKs.

A had a nice leatherman too, lost that one day when shifting house, think it fell out of my pocket in the moving truck we rented.
