micke 0
And now is supposed to be the "safe" period to go there. We were going to ski Mont Blanc du Tacul in May, but people told us not to. The snow didn´t stick well enough then, apparently not now either... I should probably decide to definately go to Japan next season. Feels a lot safer than doing another season in Chamonix. damian 0
I rode it a few times in April and May. Hiked it at 2am wading in knee deep powder and stepping over crevasses with a head torch. Reading the article, it seems no one was killed in this slide, but nine people got caught.
damian 0
...but this article says 2 killed. http://pistehors.com/comments/638_0_1_0_C/
SerreChe 2
Spud, Micke, have you done the gervasutti couloir at the Tacul? Massive serac waiting to tag the unlucky ones there...
damian 0
No way, not yet, not for a long time. I talked about it with a guide and he looked grim and shook his head. The son of Anselme Baud was killed in the Guvasatti, fell almost the full length. It has a 4200m entry, which means a sore head and weak legs into a 55 degree upper section of blue glacier ice with some snow followed by 800m vert of 45-50 degrees. Visually it is a perfect looking but that I will leave alone for quite a while. The area has two Guvasatti couloirs: The killer from the Tacul http://www.philingle.com/20030523.asp and the awesome looking (and still dangerous) petit Guvasatti just around the corner from the Tour Rond http://www.philingle.com/20050402.asp
SerreChe 2
yup, with that huge menacing serac hanging over that couloir, it is another one of these russian roulette routes.
