SnowJapan.Com#2 0
SJ#1 sent this on to me this evening and thought it might be of interest. It seems that the official number of Koreans who visited Japan to ski/snowboard between December and March this past winter season was over 15,200 people, which is an increase of over 34% on last season. By region: Hokkaido - 4,047 ... (previous season 1,567) Aomori - 1,599 ... (previous season 1,128) Iwate - 2,539 ... (previous season 1,894) Akita - 700 ... (previous season 1,083) Yamagata - 2,809 ... (previous season 2,411) Nagano - 2,683 ... (previous season 2,830) Fukushima - 641 ... (previous season 155) Toyama - 64 ... (previous season 155) Niigata - 124 ... (previous season 64) These numbers are coming from JNTO ( Japan National Tourist Organization www.jnto.go.jp )
2pints-mate 0
Interesting, especially as Nagano is the only one to take a dip!
fukdane 2
Iwate and Yamagata being almost as or more popular than Nagano is an interesting and perhaps unexpected statistic.
soubriquet 0
It may be in part because there are direct flights from Seoul to Sendai airport. Zao is about an hour from Sendai by expressway, and somewhere like Appi would be about 2 1/2 hours.
fukdane 2
There are into Niigata as well but those numbers are pretty small. Where do they go in Akita?
thursday 1
out of interest, do you have any figures for Hong Kong. I know about 40 personally.
JellyBelly 1
I wonder how much of that Hokkaido is Niseko? Always fun to know things like that.
Kumapix 0
Ha Ha Toyama is on that list!
2pints-mate 0
That very surprising? Which resorts will they be going to?
Hokkaidough 4
Whatever resorts, less than half the number of the year before I think places like Rusutsu and Tomamu will feature quite a lot in the Hokkaido list not just Niseko.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted April 23, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted April 23, 2007 No, not at the moment. I think I remember the people over at JNTO telling me that they only really have numbers for South Korea for some reason. I'll get back on this thread in the future if I can find out more.
