alexus 0
My plan was to ski Japan for the 1st time in mid March, but gathering from the season reports, this is looking like a bad time to go.(Im from Australia, so used to pretty minimal cover) My preference was to ski Nagano, because the weather seems to be better, but im thinking that there wont be much left to recommend this area by then. In dont want my 1st experience in Japan to be disapointing. id rather put it off until next season if it means better snow. Am i being too careful?.. all you regulars? what say you? tsondaboy 0
Mid March is realy hit and miss. If the seazon goes as it goes, better postpone it for next year.
gamera 0
Weather forcast for this coming March is just like usual year but it has snowed much less than usual, so might be bad, might be okay. Hard to pressume how it will be. At this moment snow at ths ski slopes are less than 200cms as of Feb 1st 8 a.m. As far as when I see this snow information, there has been worse record in the past if I remember correctly. And usually most deep snow are recorded at Mid Feb - mid May so maybe you can keep observing and decide. Good luck
alexus 0
thanks. ill keep my options open at the moment then. greatful for you advice!
orinoco 0
You'll have to wait a bit longer. Snow depths now are very low compared to usual
Fattwins 0
whichever its still 100 times better than auzzie sking and all the slopes will be open and have good cover. In the past week we have had 100 cms of snow or maybe more at mid mountain. I dont know why you wouldnt come really cause in may ill still be sking onpiste.
Zaoman 0
Warning - Fattwins is perhaps slightly on the optimistic side.
Fattwins 0
No way mid mountain and up has a ton of snow really. The bottom courses are fine. The trees are about 50% open. I should be taking more pics really but im not.
tsondaboy 0
I also hit the groomers in May, but I usualy do it with only a T-shirt on. Still, it is better than ice I recon.
Zaoman 0
You hit the groomers in a normal year, or this year? There is surely a difference. Maybe not in Hakuba, I don't know, but in places snow depths are small % of what they normally are.
Fattwins 0
When i ski a chute in june I want beer from all you guys that think or know that its that bad here. in jan at 2000meters there was a 4 meter base. i belive that there is now a six meter base thats enough to get me out there. Zaoman 0
Hey calm down I'm not trying to pick a fight. Just looking at numbers and trying to work out how it can be. I'll take your word for it and hope you are right.
tsondaboy 0
M8 I dont disagree that BC is open till June and there is some great riding to be done still there. But if you forget about were me and you tend to ride that time, the groomers usualy are like slush after mid March.
mina2 6
alexus - do you want to go bc or ski groomed runs?
Fattwins 0
who said i was picking a fight /I just want beer and I want you to be dumb enough to play lol. In March the groomers will be fine. Its now march its april sking that might be a bit bad but in april they close the bottom lifts anyways and stop managing the runs. they do this to save money. Yes there are places that will be hurting this season in march I seriously dont belive that we are one of them.

In the past week we have had 100 cms of snow or maybe more at mid mountain. Why doesn't that reflect in the Now reports? ((Hey FT, that's really not a facetious question. I don't doubt that there's a lot of under-reporting but this years 'Now' reports read like last year's if you take the '0' off at the end -- "We received a good 4-5cm last night. Should be good turns for those who get out early... ..."))
Fattwins 0
reports dont reflect what the hill gets actually. They are pretty good but they are at the base and not up on the mountain. ill set up a link in a sec to show you turns from yesterday.

Yuki's Passion 1
March is never a mistake...a one-night stand might be, but not March
gamera 0
Zaoman do you find any Juhyo ( snow monster? ) in Zao this season? Just curious.
soubriquet 0
Yes. There were photos in the local paper today.
akibun 0
I want to go and see them one time but again this year I cannot. It looks very pretty.
gamera 0
Me too. But I guess perhaps it's very easy to get lost there if once you get in the area of snow monster? Coz it looks maybe same every direction. Hard to judge where to go?
gamera 0
Soub, is Oishida close to Zao? I think I misunderstood your location.
soubriquet 0
Oishida is in Yamagata, about 55km north of Zao.
