cr500dom 0
Hi sorry not been on here for a while, been working elsewhere with no Web access Looks like I am Flying out on 5th March so hope to catch up with some of you soon Nagano looks like a good bet, How realistic would it be to leave work on Friday, Shinkansen to Tokyo, shinkansen/bus up to Nagano and then stay, ready for hitting the slopes on Sat morning ? Idea would then be to leave on Sunday afternoon and head home via the same route ?? Is that realistic ? Please forgive my ignorance but I really have no Idea of the size or scale of the country at the moment so consequently journey times are a bit of a mystery too.... Its my First time in Japan, really looking forward to it but a little daunted as well Cheers Dom

Yep, if you could finish your work before 5 p.m. on Friday, I think you can reach Nagano late at night by catching an Asama Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano. It depends on how close your office to Mishima station and Shinkansen schedule from Mishima to Tokyo. Try to find them in Jorudan transportation search. http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/e-norikeyin.html Maybe you can input "Mishima" and "Nagano" there, probably some show up. I tried it now setting the leaving time at 5:30 p.m. Mishima for Nagano then the followings showed up. Hikari #418 Mishima 5:30p.m.->Tokyo6:13p.m. Asama #543 Tokyo 6:24 p.m.->Nagano 8:18 p.m. Depends on the date, some services are not available if they were not daily available. You need to find something correct in an accurate date and time setting with that. There are bus services for Hakuba, Shiga-kogen and Nozawa area. Make sure what time the last bus leaves Nagano if you would like to stay in a closer accommodation to a ski slope. If you plan to stay somewhere around Nagano station, no worry about that. Bus for Hakuba http://www.alpico.co.jp/access/express/nagano_hakuba/index_e.html The last one that leaves Nagano at 21:00 available only on Fridays. Bus for Shiga-kogen http://www.nagadenbus.co.jp/robus/2007fuyu/kyukowin.htm 20:00,21:10 services available only on Fris. Bus for Nozawa-onsen http://www.nagadenbus.co.jp/robus/2007fuyu/nozawawin.htm No late services seem available. As to Shiga-Kogen and Nozawa, direct bus services above are not only option. You can reach Shiga-kogen by train (Nagano dentetsu) and bus, do Nozawa (JR Iiyama line ). But if it's Hakuba, I think bus service is only way, if it's by train, it would take 3 hours via Matsumoto and no service available that late at night from Matsumoto for Hakuba direction. Country size? Hum.. any ideas, anyone? This is my home country. I know how tiny it is! Maybe someone else can explain it much better. Good luck
