muikabochi 208
Hmm. Only a slight breeze here and a fine sunny day. But Gala are closed due to strong winds? 本日は強風予報により営業を中止いたします。 Sounds like a porky to me that.
sanjo 2
Gala are probably a bit wary considering the mess they have had a few times with gondolas and winds.
tsondaboy 0
If there were strong winds up there, the first place to close would have been kagura. Since kagura is still open, there is definetly something fishy about Gala.
sanjo 2
It sure does. Just spoke with muikabochi who was up at Kagura today -- not very windy even up there so he said.
number9 0
Sounds like pretty typical Japanese overcaution immediately after a similar incident causing big trouble.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted January 26, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted January 26, 2007 I did a few hours at Kagura today and it wasn't particularly windy up there and the lifts seemed to be moving normal speed. I shared the gondola with a patrol guy who was very surprised at Gala being closed today, it is curious. Decent conditions up at Kagura and not many people
tsondaboy 0
Going up there tonight #1.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted January 26, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted January 26, 2007 Overnight in the car time? Hopefully the slight snowfall they forecast overnight will appear. Have a good time.
tsondaboy 0
Yap, my car my room thing.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted January 26, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted January 26, 2007 Lets car. Take some pics, will ya?
tsondaboy 0
I will because I need to get my hands on this. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/photo-contest-yuzawa-town.html
SKI 15
Sounds rather suspicious. You'd think they would want to be open on a fine day like today was. On the Gala site now they are saying that it might be windy enough tomorrow as well to affect lift operations and they'll announce whether they will open or not before 7am. Just taking a quick look at yahoo weather it doesn't seem to be saying it will be particularly windy tomorrow. (and unfortunately it says rain)
muikabochi 208
I see Gala is closed again today... strange. And it's raining.
JellyBelly 1
Was it windy today? You'd think it would take a lot to close on a Saturday in peak season.
wakaran 1
And today as well!! What is going on up there?
IIIII 2
So they have now been closed for 3 days on the run? Sounds very fishy indeed. If they are going to close on days like today and Friday they might as well not bother opening at all.
sanjo 2
I was at the top of Ishiuchi for a fair part of today - not really windy at all up there.. very fine weather.

big-will 7
Nice pic tsondaboy, any more? BTW, in the spirit of this thread wondering what the heck is going on at Gala, was it windy up there?
muikabochi 208
Where did you start that climb tsondaboy? Nice photo. I'd love to know what was appening at Gala - 3 days it was closed and they said it was the wind each day. I just can't see that, it didn't even seem borderline. Hey and was it crowded up there?
tsondaboy 0
Yes it was crowded up there, both groomers and BC by idiots! I got a feeling first hand this weekend what montoya was complaining about in an other thread. Top of the mountain sometime after 12:00, 2 guys complete beginners that came through the broken path on bare foot and with their boards on their hands (obviously no packs etc)、diving into an death trap... Also some time after that I intervened in a conversation nearby, that was going something like this: first guy- hi good morning have you done any runs yet? Second guy- no, actually it is my first day in BC first guy- oh, I see, I am also new in this area and a bit lost do you know which way to get off the mountain? second guy- sorry I don’t know, its my first day EVER in BC. Jeeeesus!!!!
snowboarding-sam 0
Gala closed AGAIN today!??!
charlotte 0
Didnt they have goverment inspectors there to check out the lifts after that incident not too long ago when people were stranded at the top?
SirJibAlot 0
Perhaps SJ#1 has some first hand info for us - what's going on at GALA?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted February 1, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted February 1, 2007 I've been away for a while and not had a chance to speak with them since last week. I'm basically just mostly hearing the same official stories about the wind and them being cautious. After the incident a few weeks ago I believe they had to close for a day when some government inspectors were there for an explanation and to check things out.
