Check the video. This was in Polonia. Last Saturday. The jumper is Jan Mazoch. It was a day with very very strong winds but international ski federation decided to go ahead with the event eventhough some had advised to not go ahead as it was too dangerous. Before this accident 4 other jumpers had already fallen, still the international ski federation decided to go ahead.

What is really cruel though is that after this accident they just waited for the ambulance to leave and then continued with the show.

Jan Mazoch hit his head really hard as you can see in the video, and is now in coma.

I hope he survives and recovers well.

I think sometimes players themselves have to be brave to refuse going ahead? Or is there any rules that players can not refuse?

Only they know who can be responsible for their own life - themselves.

update

WARSAW, Poland -- Czech ski jumper Jan Mazoch was in a serious but stable condition on Monday after his horrific fall during a World Cup event in the southern Polish resort of Zakopane, a hospital spokeswoman said.

"He is in a serious but stable condition. He is still in an artificial coma," said Anna Niedzwiedzka, spokeswoman for Krakow university hospital.

"The doctors are unable to carry out neurological tests while he remains in a coma," she told Poland's TVN24 news television station.

Experts had yet to decide whether to take Mazoch out of his coma or if he should be transferred to the Czech Republic, she said.

From a medical point of view, it would be better for Mazoch to be moved to a hospital in his home country while he was still in a coma, she added.

Earlier, Niedzwiedzka said that Mazoch was undergoing angiogram tests, which were meant to assess the impact on his blood vessels.

Mazoch, 21, who was competing in his first World Cup event of the season, was knocked unconscious when he fell after losing his balance in the middle of a jump during Saturday's event in Zakopane.

It was thought that high winds were the cause of the accident and officials halted the event after the crash. Mazoch was in 15th place after Saturday's first round.

Thanks for the update.

CNN should be more accurate. "halted the event after the crash"...

Not exactly accurate. They continued with the event, and halted it after the second round cos it was impossible to continue. The first round continued after this accident, and the other 4 before.
