Boots 0
Hey everyone, A mate and I are thinking of trying to get to Japan in Feb. Neither of us have been before so we would like some advice on a good itinery, you know - Which mountain?, Where to fly to?, good place to stay? etc. Don't want to spend toooo much but want some good powder and steep hills We only have about 10 days off work. Kumapix 0
Just wondering why you're choosing Japan over say, Colorado or Whistler?
thursday 1
Newcastle in Australia instead of UK, so I guess Japan would be a good choice for you.
Powderoo 0
Boots is an Aussie, so USA is a fairly long trip compared to Japan, plus the exchange rate is much better in Japan than USA. and flights to USA are more expensive than Japan. EDIT: Boots, go to Hakuba.
Kumapix 0
ah, newcastle australia. I see

Fattwins 0
Where does furano come into the big snow picture? this year maybe but they get an average of 3 meters less a season than hakuba. Hakuba cortina averages more snow than even Niseko per year.

Yes, Hakuba is a fantastic place, you'll find everything you're looking for there and more. Don't even think of anywhere else, you won't be disappointed.
number9 0
Unless if he wants a comfortable English language environment with good powder, then Niseko would do too (but not steep compared to Hakuba).
one8s 0
hey guys... Im coming to hakuba in a few weeks on my own and my japanese is awful - do you think it would be very difficult to meet people, get around etc etc?
Fattwins 0
That wasnt what it was about and you guys know that. Never once pumped Hakuba but corrected facts that were bloody well wrong. If you cant take that then you are just being babies.
Yuki's Passion 1
FT, its just become a game mate - let them be ignorant of the facts I say send em all to the north island!!
Mantas 3
Niseko?-Hakuba? I'm pretty sure there is a third resort somewhere in Japan
skidaisuki 0
one8s... The answer is that Hakuba isn't like Niseko (yet) in terms of numbers of gaijin around, but it is quite non-Japanese speaker friendly. Besides, the only communications that you are likely to need to make are with the people selling lift passes and maybe the people selling you your lunch. When people want to take your money, I've found that they usually find a way to communicate with you...

Mantas 3
This forum is dominated by Niseko and Hakuba. We never hear much about the other 200 plus resorts in Japan. Why is that?
bushpig 0
Cos a) most regular posters are fans of one or the other and/or live in either of the two, and not quite true. We hear bits and pieces from some of the guys in other areas of northern Japan. It's just that those are the main 2 destinations for people paying money t go somewhere. bushpig 0
also, remember that Hakuba isn't one resort. There are so many resorts in the area, which is probably one of the big attractions. Really quite an awesome area mountain-wise.
Kumapix 0
Feel free to ask about resorts in Toyama
Mantas 3
I'm sure Hakuba offers more than enough for this little duck BP. two weeks to go mate and I'll be there. It's all new to me. One trip I'd like to get right off the track and visit some unique, obscure resorts that no gaijin ever goes to.
Mantas 3
What happened to Boots anyway?
bushpig 0
Ah that's right, you're heading to Hakkas! 2 weeks? If you get a chance, head over to the snow monkeys that go in the hot springs. Great experience!
