brit-gob 9
Whats this I heard from a friend about some trouble over new year with some gaijin-types in Hakuba? Apparently some fighting in bars and general unruliness. Was there some trouble or was it nothing?
sava 0
there was a bit of info mentioned in another post by FT ? Some americans?
Markie 0
I think this is what Fattwins is refering to in the thread " Insane New Years deal to Hakuba!! ". I don't know whether he's refering to likeDaPow. likesDaPow appears to have had a good time and didn't mention anything about it and Fattwins was quite vague. I think he's (Fatts) too busy lately with his pension to be writing more stuff. BP, CB and BCS are there, so maybe they can fill us in.
brit-gob 9
We'll probably hear more next week when all are back I suppose.
hughcohen 0
this place is so dead at the moment..
gogalago 0
Can confirm that there were a few bashers about on new years and a couple of days before... variety of nationalities though. Alcohol and frustration with the lack of snow I guess... oh, and two of the three I know about involved staking claims on women. Fun (?)

merryJim 1
Ni, ni, ni...honjin? If there was fighting of whatever sort, that would be very sad to hear.
Mudguts 0
Yep. No fresh snow, few chicks combined with many blokes in close proximity and alcohol will spell aggression quite often. Hopefully with a few more bars opening up in Hakuba this season we may be able to go to somewhere where there actually are some chicks out and about. But will more bars only dilute and spreadout the wealth leading to more frustration?
nzlegend 1
My pension was full a gorgeous Japanese girls, they all stayed in and didnt go out to bars, because they know predators will be waiting for them. I dont blame them walking into a bar full of horny foreign guys wouldnt be that appealing.
cal 6
Predators. I like it. When I go out I want to go to a place that is most definitely not gaijin-bar. Not for the lady reason above.

Before this year, I spent the last three Xmas/New Years at Niseko. It's a fallacy that Niseko's been ruined by Aussies. They're a most polite bunch, really. Hakuba, on the other hand... indosnm 0
It's funny that you have an Aussie (NPM) making the Aussie claim!

samurai 0
i've only been to hakuba once, for a week. Saw a fight then too, aussies. Actually, they were just drunk. Aussie has nothing to do with it. before the fight, they were the most hilarious group i have ever partied with. Had me in tears. Anyone know Mr. Supersize Testi? Can't remember his name. Probably better that way. (Actually- he was the one showing it off.)
likesDaPow 0
Yes I can confirm that some fistacuffs were thrown. I watched as 2 guys got knocked out cold. All the fighting I saw was between Americans and Kiwis or Aussies, or just Americans fighting each other. Some people have a funny way of celebrating! Anyways, just like the Japanese party goers, I stayed out of the way. Some of the offenders were aquaintances of mine but not friends. I think everyone was all wound up watching Pride and K1 right before hitting the bars.
thursday 1
more predictable than the snow. It could happen anywhere, any resort bar in the world.
cayote 0
Fighting was just a part of Aussie culture in my time there - bar fights, street fights, bashings - and much, much worse. Anyone for a few Bundy and Cokes and an AC/DC soundtrack to warm up ya blood? Anyone spent time in Sweden - it's worse there - bouncers on the door of most places on Saturday nights, including Macdonalds, and even that doesn't stop chair-swing, gang fighting. At least the ratings of the NHK NYE show were more than double the ratings of K1/Pride. If thoes guys in Hakuba had watched NHK instead of Pride, they might have burst out into a spontaneous song-and-dance musical instead of fist fights. Their chances with the girls would have been better too.
snowcat 0
"culture", kyoto, india, culture that's culture. violence is violence, I hate that 'ocker' mentality.
thursday 1
that NYE show kicked up a storm with that chitake drawn on the front of that guy's pants didn't it. what a laugh.

Fattwins 0
It really wasnt an Aussie thing and as soon as the big milatary groups left shockingly there were no more fights. I hope that the next group is escorted by MPs like they do in Korea.
