I usually take it easy on the first day - ride the mountain hit some easy kickers. Early in the season your legs are weak and the snow may not yet be ideal. You don't want to get jacked up early in the season and loose valuable snow time.

I was skiing about 5hours yesterday. Fortunately my knee didn't hurt. I felt that my legs were stronger than last season, maybe my bicycling habit every weekend is effective. There is a little sore on my back today but I'm very happy with this little sore. \:\)

Having just got back from skiing (well a month ago... seems so far now \:\( ), I can say that it took me a good 6 or 7 ski days to remember how to ski powder (and we flew home the day after I mastered it), but no trouble with technique on the groomers from day one. No training before the trip, so fitness was a bit of an issue on the longer pistes.
