I'm back. It was great. Fernie was sunny as hell for 10 out of the 12 days I was there. Light dusting on the other days... Really nice place, even though I missed out on powder. We had a cold snap for a coupla days. One day it was -27C at the bottom - eek.gif - lots of trips to the warming room... thank god it wasn't windy that day.

nice runs looks like :-)

I went up to tengu on top of tsugaike this Saturday for my first backcountry ever. (http://homepage.mac.com/mrjamie/PhotoAlbum16.html). The snow was ice for the first few meters, powder for the rest of the summit, then crust the rest of the way back to the gondola where it was slush from there on down. Still, very fun :-) Nothing like hiking up the face of tengu, hah. 30 steps rest 30 steps rest. Nice broken snowshoe ;\)

How was the snow for you guys?

Great photos.

They make the backcountry seem so accessible.

Speaking as a surfer, to post a description and picture of the route seems like an open invitation. Next time you go up perhaps there'll be more tracks and people than you'd like.

There are more than enough lines out there for people to ski
I can understand being secretive about tree runs but backcountry lines are fair game

as a surfer too, I dont think the comparison is quite the same. Anybody can paddle out into some surf (obviously depends on the size of the waves and the balls of the person) but not everybody has the gear to traverse into the BC. If theyre stupid enough to venture outta bounds into the BC, not just OB into resort area trees, especially without any gear, then they deserve what they get.

Well it's not like the surf won't kill people that can't swim very well

I think it's more that if somebody has the experience they can look at this route, find somebody to go with and go for it.

I don't care that we are sharing it with people. If you have the want to get out there then go for it. I'm not going to get angry because they don't live around here. That's just stupid.
