Hi - newbie here.

I'm heading to Japan for a week mid January, and I have a JR Railpass. I want to spend a couple of days snowboarding while I'm there but I'm having trouble working out what is the closest resort/mountain to Tokyo.

Can anyone advise me which is the best/closest/easiest to get to by train/ resort to Tokyo?

Thank you in advance!

Anyone notice the JR Byuu Day Trip plans are more expensive this year? or is it just me?? Iwappara is 10,300 yen for shink and lift ticket compared to Ishiuchi for 8,200. I dont remember paying more than 10,000 yen for any day trips last year... maybe too many hits on the head...

Haven't experienced it first hand, but I hear popular places like Gala and Naeba can get quite crowded on weekends during the high season.

JR Byuu is more expensive than the bus packages, but there are some reasonable Shinkansen packages where you only have a choice of 2 or 3 train times.
