Okutadami area gets tons of snow.

When I was a uni student, train timetable said "service unavailable" in winter ( approx, December - March ) around Tadami due to snow.

Not sure how it goes now.

Okutadami usually opens from November until January and then it closes from then until around mid-March when it opens again until sometime in May. There is a lot of snow up there but the main problem is the road going up to the place. I went once fairly early season and "powder" is not what we found there (it was pretty poor). Having said that, it is definitely one of the first places to open.

Okutadami Maruyama will be opening up tomorrow - the first in Niigata with natural snow.... they reckon they have about 70-80cm up there (5 courses to open above number 2 lift)

A small part of Kita Shiga Ryuo in Nagano will also open (artificual snow).

I'm not sure if anyone is going to read this beofore I leave in the morning for the hills, but where do you think I should go tomorrow shiga ryuo or normal shiga (I'm assuming there has been no change since sat-i.e. kumanoyu and takamagahara-one lift going about a third of the way up the hill) I have never been to ryuo so I thinking of going there, it's also cheaper 3,000yen vs 3,900yen
