Yes, I am excited!! It will be good, but not perfect: no one to do BC with, no car and 2.5 hours from the nearest good resort area.

I have only been to one area in Italy, Courmayeur. I did the black dotted line on the left. It was an enormous descent on the back side of Mont Blanc and at the time has pretty baked and cruddy snow conditions. We entered it via a mother of a chute.

Yes that is VERY cheap, but obviously doesn't include the return airfares to/from Oz.

Certainly a trip to remember - any photo's?

SubZero – no pics as we didn't stop at the bottom. Just a little bit of

video whilst messing with a rope at the chute entrance.

To make up for it, here is something to keep in mind next time you are in Japan ‘enjoying’ a curry rice resort lunch ;\)

I have experienced the same. Clapping. I think even the stewardesses were clapping. lol.gif It was very cheap though. Once we landed we thought of the extra 5 man we had saved.

That was then. I'd rather pay a bit more now.

wow looks like everyone has their own aeroflot stories.

When my wife was around 20, she flew aeroflot from Japan to London. On the flight one of the stewardesses found a missing package with a Japanese name on it. Next thing my wife knows they escort her up to the intercom at the front and ask her to broadcast a message in Japanese asking who is the owner.

and yeah, she said when they landed everyone broke out in cheers.

Crepes?? eek.gif How spoilt! (Although the hotly debated subject of a previous thread, they certainly like some beer with their froth, huh? ;\) )

Looks like you had spiffy weather too ... life is often so hard for us snow-riders, isn't it.

Good snow + good friends + cold beer ... doesn't get much better!

BPC - I have an email address for a guy at Warren Miller Films that has done a lot of skiing in Russia. I have no idea where he is now (on assignment probably), but he may be able to give you some tips. Just let me know and I can PM you the email addy. He at least will be able to point you in the right direction.

I've always dreamed of skiing in Kamkatcha. Google it - it looks unbelievable!

For the money, northern BC and Valdez, AK are hard to beat. That is a helluva long flight for you though! After flying over the Hubbard Icefield and Mount Logan in Canada, my mind was racing with possibilities. So remote, so untouched...and so unaccesible. I hope it stays that way \:\)

Suby, Suby Suby, will you never learn? Tell me, which beer looks better, the above beer with a big snowy head that keeps in the fresh crisp characteristics of the brew or the beer in the picture below, taken a few days earlier. It looks turgid and glum and has no place on my table. But that pizza does!! In fact, I remember that day so clearly as though it was yesterday. It was one of the best pizza I have ever eaten. You can tell I was influenced by my time in Japan - all these photographs of food!

Plucky - that contact would be pretty handy, cheers, but I am now 99.99% sure that I will not visit Russia this season. For the cash I would rather go to Alaska. Although if Rsiia takes a favourable swing I will let you know. At this stage I am staying very close to home.

It's all academic and we'll have to agree to disagree ... though ... surely you'd concur that the total absence of beer, during a pizza scoffing session, would be disasterous. ;\)

Pizza ... beer ... mmmmmmm

Suby - So you prefer the glum lifeless looking beer? hmmmm, I simply don't have anything nice to say in response to that ;\) I agree though, pizza without beer is a shit situation.

Fatty - My dog and a very close friend are renting an apartment in Northern Italy. I have relocated most of my weekend private/leisure life there. I am conducting my week day work life in London whilst living in a shoe box apartment that gives me very quick access to both work and the train link to the airport. I fly to Italy nearly every weekend after leaving the office at 4pm on Friday. I return at midnight Sunday night. From a fulfillment perspective, I consider myself to live in Italy and work in London during the week.

Japanese curry gives good energy, but is like a pile of mud in your guts that just doesn't feel good on an afternoon of hard work. Makes burps quit toxic as well. I never understood why the Japanese tolerate such C-grade food in resorts. It is almost as though to them a resort is a place for sliding on snow and no other form of enjoyment is appropriate. They certainly do not provide the all round experience.

sounds like you got it all planned out well.

ive always packed a lunch at resorts mate. at home I tend to eat thai curry or make a japanese curry with coconut milk. I find a little chesse on the top adds an extra bit of zing.

at happo eat at the thai place or at the mexi restaurant, good food. there are also a few decent pizza shops around happo as well. stay away from cafe I hate there food and only eat there 5% of the time.

I think I'd prefer the happy beer in this case. I see you don't have any Tabasco to go with your pizza, so I don't see how it could have been at all delicious.

I wonder what you get to eat heliboarding in Russia.

Ahhh...the aeroflot clapping thing. They did that when I landed in Moscow one time, pretty funny. I wonder if it's aeroflot thing or a Russian thing.

The resort food is pretty average here. I remember having half a roast chicken with mashed potato and gravy in Switzerland-now that's snow styles food. Just an overpriced meat pie at any NZ resort would top most of what's offered here. Agree with FT about Bangkok Ya at Happo. The Mexican at 47 is good as well.
