A NEW HOME FOR THE SNOW JAPAN FORUMS:

As you have probably noticed by now, the Snow Japan Forums have a new home. They have their own domain now, appropriately titled www.snowjapanforums.com (If you aren’t into plurals, try www.snowjapanforum.com and they’ll bring you to the same place.)

Why do this? Well, there’s a number of reasons, including the fact that while we are fond of our old skijapanguide.com address, the new one fits in better with Snow Japan as a whole. Also, the new address will be easier to remember and tell your friends. (So please tell them!)

JUST A FEW THINGS:

If you are registered, you will have to login on these new Forums. Once you are logged in, you should find that your Member details, PMs and records are exactly as they were at the previous location.

A few bugs that were in the Forums have also now been resolved and it should be running better than ever.

Any links within posts on the Forums will still point to the old skijapanguide.com addresses. Unfortunately there is no easy way to convert all of those - it has to be done manually.

We are going to be changing all the links on the SnowJapan.Com main site to point directly towards this new Forums URL, but for some of the pages this may take some time. But don’t worry, people easily find their way here from the link at the old location.

ANY PROBLEMS?

The Snow Japan Forums are now pretty big (and we never knew so many people used the PMs so much!!) It’s taken the best part of 3 days to move all this lot over to our new address (and involved the moving of well over 50,000 files.) While we have done our best to ensure there are no problems and that everything has moved over ok, there may be some problems.

If you do encounter any problems, ie,

- you can’t login;

- you can’t view a particular thread on the forums;

- you find anything else “strange” going on;

....please email us at editor@snowjapan.com with details. General comments in this thread are fine, but please send any details of specific problems to us via email. If a problem involves your account, please let us know your login name and password.

Hope you like the new address, and all your stuff is in the right place and working!

Tell your friends!

I've had to migrate sites from/to different servers before.

ugh..

no fun when you have packages/settings just slightly different enough to make it croak. even worse is switching platforms altogether (eg php to asp, mysql to postgresql, etc)

but anyway, the new forum-site seem to run fine from my end here. otsukaresama!

I thought it would take a full day, but it was more like 3. eek.gif I don't think this will ever been moving again, at this address to stay.

But very happy to see all of it seems to be working fine - we're still testing and checking it all out.

We do want to know if anyone finds anything strange going on. Let us know.

You are probably still working out some of the bugs but coming from the main page to here I was told that the forums have changed and had to click on another address. Not a problem. Just wondering if you are going to change that shortcut

Happily, we haven't encountered any real problems. Fingers crossed.

As we said there are a lot of links to the Forums (old address) and it will take time to change all of those. We'll be trying to change the links on the more popular pages that bring people to the Forums though today, then work on less popular pages later on.

Thanks

I have a question! How come montoya and slow always seem to be parked at the far left of that recent visitors list (when they're online of course!) They always seem to be up there!

Links from the main page of the site, as well as all the Resort pages now point directly to snowjapanforums.com. (The links on the rest of the pages will gradually all be changed to point here, may take some time. We'll try to do the more popular pages first.)

Just thought we'd mention another change that has been made.

Until now when people registered on the Forums, there was no email address check to make sure that the email address provided was valid.

We have now changed the settings so that people who register on the Forums receive an email with a password - and then once they have been approved they login using the password that thet have been provided with. (Basically verifying that they entered a valid email address).

This of course doesn't affect people who are already logged in. However, because we require that each email address now be verified, any change of your email address will result in an automatic change of your password by the system; this new password would be emailed to the new email address that you list in the form. (And of course you can change the new password to whatever you like once you are logged in to the Forums).

This has been changed to increase security on the Forums.
