Mr Sensational 0
Hello all. Mr Sensational here. Could anyone tell me which is the first resort in Japan to get snow on it's runs? Not necessarily enough for riding, just snow on the runs. Thanking you
Ocean11 0
The resort at Karuizawa was making snow pretty early on. Does that count?
IM 0
Karuizawa, Sugadaira, and Naeba makes snow and open a very small/narrow trails in early/mid November. Many goes to Tateyama at the end of November. The resort that open earliest is Tenjin Taira in Gunma(end of Nov.)
Mr Sensational 0
Thanks for the quick response people - great. I was actually meaning real snow coming down from the sky, not a machine!
Ocean11 0
This last season, Hiroshima and Hokkaido had some of the earliest significant snowfall (if I remember correctly).
telly 0
Hiroshima?! Well there's an eye opener.....
scouser 4
When does Fuji get it's first snow on it's head?
IM 0
I recall watching a news and was around end of September? By the way, TenjinTaira opens its season with both natural and man made snow.
scouser 4
Going back to the original q, I always thought the places high up in Hokkaido got the first snow. Hiroshima is indeed surprising. A joke, surely?
oo 1
Surely somewhere like Karuizawa only gets "real" snow mid December or even later? It would surprise me if they got the real stuff earlier than that.
Ocean11 0
No jokes from me, I never make jokes. At the beginning of last season, I was monitoring the Resort Watch page with the concentration of an air-traffic controller. And I swear that along with Hokkaido, Hiroshima was the first place to get 100 cm. Then places like Karuizawa in Nagano overtook that. Nozawa suddenly got a lot, and I first went in mid-November. Hiroshima getting first dumps may be anomolous, I don't know. Certainly the season started quite early last year. Maybe SJG can confirm (or disprove) this with some stats?
