niger 0
Which resorts are the go in Gunma ken? I have a mate going to live in Maebashi from the end of July and am planning on sleeping on his couch for a while. I have heard Goryu Tomi is OK? Any others?
frannyo 2
Ones I've been to: To the east of Numata.... Tenjinadaira - snall Kawaba - decent day out Marunuma Kogen - like this place, early season To the west.... Kusatsu (skiers place) Manza
scouser 4
Marunuma is good for an early ride in November. Nice ride up there too.
Wizz 11
Tenjindaira for powder and off course (of course). Nice views too on a clear day.
niger 0
Tenjindaira ay? Have heard a bit about it. Not so about Marunuma but might have to check it out. Does anyone know how far it is from Maebashi?
Mudguts 0
Manza Onsen! The best pow on Honshu and awesome tree runs from the top of the mountain.
akibun 0
I have never actually been to Gunma ski resort, but I heard that in Oze/Houdaigi/Marunuma area the snow is very good. Marunuma is about 40 minutes drive from Numata IC of the Kanetsu Expressway. Good drive when no snow over to Tochigi and Nikko region.
oo 1
I have never really got into Gunma in a big way. Maybe I should give it more of a try next season.
lin 0
When we were in Japan we thought about going to some of the place in Gunma, but it just didn't seem worth it with the travel involved and everything.
grungy-gonads 54
Tenjindaira - either love it or hate it. I go from one to the other, but love it more than hate it. You've just got to time it right for the best snow. Easier said than done.
barok 0
I saw a video - Burton "Exit" with Craig Kelly riding Tenjindaira's off piste. It looked out of control. Just unbelieveable. The video was two years old, but it was acres and acres of powder. Meadows with sparse trees and good sized drops. Do they sweat the off-piste riders ?
cal 6
Has anyone here ever been to Oze Iwakura or the other places in that area?
mina2 6
Decent family style resorts in the Oze area. Not for you off piste powder hounds, but
scouser 4
Oze is a nice area too - all year round.
LiquidX 0
Manza Onsen - best pow on Honshu? Really?
Matt 0
Hmmmm... I'll take that with a pinch of salt
Mudguts 0
You guys took your time. I knew I had to get a retort at some stage. Best pow on Honshu. Who knows, but I've had some damn deep and dry powder there over the years. As good as anywhere else I've boarded.
akibun 0
"Goryu Tomi" I was just think about this one, and coming to thinking of it I have never heard of that resort... that's in Gunma?? [This message has been edited by akibun (edited 14 July 2002).]
