belle 0
longing for those days of riding the snow, I pulled my board out of storage just the other day just to remind myself of how good life is in winter. "you have neglected me" cried my board (well, it would have done if it could). "you have shoved me away without a care until next season, and then who'll be crying for not having SERVICED me properly" anyone aware of a reasonable place in Tokyo to get gouges filled and edges done without paying an absolute fortune? in canada or oz i would expect to pay about $40 for the privilege.... if we have done this before, i am sure ocean will tell me to shut up and find the right thread...but that's okay! my board needs the help more than me....any thoughts appreciated
Ocean11 0
"I don't know ho-ow you were diverted, you were perverted too" Is that how it was? I know a good little board and skate shop in Suwa where they positively caress your board for only 3,000 yen. If you're in the area, give me a shout. I only just put my kewl black trousers away, and it was a sad occasion. But this year, I'm bearing it all a lot better than last time. Thank God. Oh and belle, we did this topic before. Weren't you paying attention?
belle 0
clearly you have an elephant memory mr11. i thought we may have done it all before but knew that you would know if we had! must have been asleep, or better still, riding when we did that one... suwa? shiranai yo. if you have the time would you mind please emailing me the directions or something rather than bore everyone to death with this topic (again!!) put away your snow trou' eh? hard thing to do no matter how kewl they are. mine are still on the floor next to the bed so every morning i am reminded when i get up that i am not going riding... sad torture huh? actually, i seem to be going through a need a new jacket phase. everytime i buy a new kewl jacket, i feel the urge to get a different one... last count is 3 and it ain't over yet... perhaps it is being in japan too long syndrome, you know, the need to feel kewl in new gear everytime i step outside. oh, and perfectly made up because you can't go boarding of the 'make' ain't right... but that's a girl thang, right? tosh 0
It's easy to get it done at most places for around that much isnt it?
miteyak 0
Seems that way. One up for snowboards on this one, though, where one stick is definitely better than two. Went to get my teles serviced the other day, 7000 yen! so opted for the DIY.
Ocean11 0
It depends a lot on where you go. If you go to Alpen a snowboard waxing and tuning will cost you 7,000 yen. They've been pushing their prices up over the last 2 years. I like the care that the cheaper, smaller places lavish on your board.
rach 1
I have found the normal price at most of the smaller friendly sports shops is around 4000 yen, not 7000 yen. Check them out instead of the biggies.
big-will 7
I got mine done for 4500 yen at the beginning of last season at a small sports shop in our neighbourhood. They had my board for 3 days (!) and did a grand job. I recommend going with the small shops rather than the big places that couldnt give a crap about your stuff.
SinBad 0
Theres plenty of places up here in Akita that will give you a superb service for around 3-4000 yen. You shouldn't pay much more than that.
The Skull 0
Pretty much the same story as others have. If you go to the bigger chain stores, they will be less friendly, less willing to lavish time and care on your equipment, and charge you more. Get in with a friendly local shop. Guest
Does anyone here do it themselves?
Ocean11 0
I tried it a few times, but I found it a real hassle, with very middling results. So I prefer to pay someone to do it. Same goes for swapping my summer/winter wheels. These people are specialists, and they do a great job for the money.

Guest
Interesting read this one. seems that most people are just looking for the cheapest place. work is hard enough without throwing away `ya hard earned`. but it`s like most things- calvin clien boxers and prada handbags notwithstanding- that ya only get what you pay for! have to agree though that the smaller `local` stores are the way to go. i`ve managed to hook-in pretty well with my local store and while i can manage wax jobs and edges meself, for the more delicate stuff like base grinds, gouges and p-tex, i prefer to leave it to me man, Takahiro. his shop is modern and his equipment is latest model stuff. his shop is essentially a board tuning one. sure, he stocks a few jackets, accessories, bords an that..., but tuning is where he`s at. now if yar just startin out on the snow or kinda new,ya probly wont notice too much of a difference between your cheap tune and your not so cheap. but if you`re striving for that little bit of extra preformance from your gear, there definately is! and lets face it we work too hard to buy our gear to throw money away on cheap tune- ups. peeps from all over japan send thier boards to him in the off season, read now, and it`s actually his bussiest time of year. he actually takes in more boards than he can turn out each day, so there comes a time when he has to say `NO`. if your interested,(i`m not sure of his prices) give him a call- 0285-20-0030. his wepage is www.quest@9est.com his shop name is `QUEST board tune up` his english is spot on too. he spent a cuppla seasons in en.zed. later,Andy. LiquidX 0
I usually spend about 4000 yen each season in Nov at the local place. They do a reet grand job.
oblivion 5
I get mine done twice a season - at the end and just before the beginning. That hasn't been mentioned here, does no-one else do that?
scouser 4
What do you get done to it at the end of the season? cheers
oblivion 5
Simple, once the season is over, I just go in and get her cleaned/tuned up so I can store her knowing she'll be just fine. (It helps that the guy who does it is a good buddy and does it for real cheap)
LiquidX 0
Is this all happening in Tokyo, oblivion, or out in the sticks?
