japowder 0
Is it worth it? Is there usually enough snow at hirafu around the middle of December??
Guest
definitely better to wait until the season really starts instead of wasting the experience on the non-100% version. worth the wait, believe me, rodge
Twiki 0
Hit Niseko earlyish last December (around the 8th). There was more than a metre of fresh down and it snowed at 50-80cm each night I was there (4 days). Totally wicked but exhausting start to the season!@Plus you can get really cheap packages then. Mine was around 35,000 yen for 4 days, with flights, transport, hotel and lift passes from Tokyo. Guess we were lucky though...
japowder 0
actually that is the reason I was asking. I've found a few really good packages and they are all in early-mid december. We went to hirafu in the first week of March last season and it was awesome, but the whole trip cost about 70,000. The december deals are between 35,000 to 40,000! When we were there last season we got about 10-20cm each night. But this 50-80cm sounds wild. The only other thing that concerns me is our condition so early in the season. We could barely walk after 4 days there last season and that was after about 50 days on snow!!!! I hate to think what it could do to you if you're out of shape....
Twiki 0
It was bloody painful! Put it that way, but we got 4 mornings of huge powder and then four afternoons of rolling down mountains with legs too tired to turn. Meant I had no problem with the rest of the season tho! I reckon go for it and keep your fingers crossed. Even if there's barely any, it'll make a wicked trip and there'll be more there than anywhere else in the country.
