Where else in Hokkaido apart from Niseko?

First time to post on this DB, so hi all!

 

I'm applying for the JET programme for 2002 with +1. We're applying for Hokkaido and were going to put the Niseko area as our first preference, but can anyone suggest other places that could be good if you're living there for twelve months?

 

Skiing-wise, +1 is an advanced telemarker/ alpine skier, and I'm a beginner telemarker/ high intermediate alpine skier. We both love the outdoors and want an area that can keep us occupied in Summer with hiking, cycling, climbing, whatever. Any suggestions?

Don't know about living, but for winter sports......try these regions:

 

Furano, Tomamu, Rusutsu, Kiroro, Otaru (a bit out but more of a city).

 

Sometimes people forget that there is MUCH MORE to Hokkaido than just Niseko.

zebedee pretty much summed it up there, not much else to add. Would try northen Tohoku and some of the great places in Aomori and Yamagata too if I were you. Great places.
