And also you can get Gala Day-trip package deal of JR-Higashinihon is (inc. Shinkansen (Bullett line) & lift tickets ) about JPY 10,000- from Omiya. Not that super expensive. But also Kawaba (in Gunma) is popular with the Tokyoites because it is easy to get to from that direction. It's just off the highway that I can't remember the name of. But be warned, it is often busy and very windy. Also in Gunma is Norn in Minakami, which is only a small resort but has good late night boardin'. And again is very close to the highway.
