haven't dropped by here in a while, so I thought I would swing by to let you all know how the season in the great pacific nortwhest is going...

How can I eloquently sum it up thus far: IT SUCKS! yes, this has been a terrible season here for 2 reasons...weather and injury...

I think snow-wise, this is one of the worst seasons in over 30years. All the big resorts (Mt. Baker, Steven's Pass, Snoqualmie to name a few) are CLOSED. Mt. Baker holds the WORLD RECORD for most snow in a season ('99) but can't even stay open for 2 weeks in a row this year. Even Blackcomb/Whistler hasn't seen its base depth change in over a month. The weather is warm, there is not even all that rain I hear about Seattle...just sunny and warm. Pathetic...What is worse is that other parts of the country are having EPIC seasons...Lake Tahoe got 10 feetof fresh in 10 days over new years!!! Amazing

My misery from weather is immense, as you might imagine. But I also managed a season ending injury on 12/28 (one of the few days the mtn. was open...in fact, it was opening day at my home mtn stevens pass). I can not remember any of the details, as I lost conciousnss (I can't even piece together events leading up to it). The result was an airlift to a hospital, 3 days in teh hospital, a broken back, neck, face and teeth. Sounds bad...I guess it is, but it culd have been much worse. I am rehabing and plan on skiing next season. The good news is I get a refund on my pass, whereas all my friends are stuck with theirs (the ironoy...).

Anyway, consider yourselves lucky. I should have stayed in japan another winter. You can't break your neck in waist deep pow...

Sorry to hear the bad news - injury and snow conditions.

It seems the PNW has had back-to-back sus seasons - last season we spent a week in both Sun Peaks and Whistler and the snow conditions were marginal ... that is, on Canadian standards. " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

What the f*** were you doing to sustain those sorts of injuries?!! Didn't see that groomer or zigged when ya should've zagged?! confused.gif

Get well.

I heard from someone who was in Whistler recently and it was raining there.

You are not the Danz of tree powder fame? You must be an imposter. Only a danz imposter could hurt himself.

Can this imposter speak on behalf of danz and give more information as to the how of this accident.

sorry

hehe...

seriously, I have no clue what happened. I was riding with enderzero, and he also didn't see it. The mountain just opened and was definetly in early season operation. Only 2 lifts were open worth riding, and the only terrain worth skiing were the groomers. We definetly did not go off piste (that would have destroyed my skiis), and there was no park in place. My guess is I hit some unmarked obstacle that caused me to launch out of my skiis and into a tree or something...my jacket was shredded, but my helmet showed no impact point (but my face sure did...). I remember ski patrol did not even have to move me far to get me moving (on the sled of course).

I have a theory that gandalf was playing some cruel joke on me because I left him at home that day...

anyway, can't really tell you more, cause that's all I know. I certainly consider myself lucky...considering.

all of you should make some deep powder turns in my honor!

Hey so you only spent 3 days in the hospital with a broken back and neck?

Gots to give props to the Stevens Pass Patrol clap.gif Would have given a thumbs up but that isn't an option. The clap icon will have to do.

And on the bright side you got a ride in a helicopter. That's always fun right?

Could this have been the revenge of the "death cookie" eek.gif or is this not a possible snow feature in the resort you were at?

have you checked for security camera fottage from the lift towers perhaps.

I will be happy to make a thorough investigation on your behalf. If you pay my entire expenses and allow me to transit for a few days in Tahoe. ;\)

That's too bad Danz.Good to hear you're ok, and to look on the bright side mate, at least you're sitting out a crap snow year. Meanwhile, I'm failing to get out during an epic one. There was even snow on my bike this morning in the middle of Osaka. Snow lying settled on the ground in the middle of the city, eyed furtively by me as I head into another long day of work. Totally wrecked a new board with my only trip early on in the season as well. Anyway..get better soon mate.

dang, danz, that sucks a nut. should've met up with you in whistler in december. the skiing was pretty weak, but not as weak as it's become.

good to hear you're alright. i've always wondered how most of us have skiied for years relatively scratch free. Maybe we all have a big fluke injury like this waiting in our future. let's hope not.

headin' to alta a week from thursday. i'm gettin a bit worried, cause they haven't gotten a day of 6in+ for like 3 weeks.

if you coerce gandalf to conjure up some snow, i'll send you some pics!
