After spending the end of last season looking for a place to service my board, and been told that it would not be ready before 12.00 the next day, and since I was not able to find any place in Tokyo that would do it for me I decided I would bite the bullet and give it a try myself. I heard from a canadian friend of mine that it was easy so I went off and bought the gear, and then did the research ! Not too smart I hear you say...

Well the board is now serviced, the base waxed and the edges sharp. I just hope I have wrecked my board !

Being the nice guy tht I am I decided that I would share this info with you.

I found two good sites that had a complete descrition of how to do this.

http://www.firsttracksonline.com/tuning.htm

or if you'd like the manual in PDF http://www.kuu.com/pages/tuningmanual2.pdf

and another by our very own SJG

I know a local place (Suwa) that'll do it quickly for 3,000 yen which seems like pretty good cost performance. I tried it a few times myself and it was a hassle, that took over an hour, although it seemed to work well enough.

You should find that lots of the bigger sports shops in ski towns will do this for you. Whether they can do it on the spot or not is another matter. Usually around 3-5000 yen or something like that.

You will find it makes a difference if you haven't sharpened up.

Read that chairman article as well - link is above...
