danz 0
so i've never really done much backcountry skiing (besides the occasional rope-ducking) and was wondering... what are the necessary skills and equipment... i.e. what level skier/boarder should you be, what do you need to carry with you what kind of mountaineering skills do you need, how many people should you travel with...etc... just curious...wanna try it for real one day danz ------------------ pray for snow

dane 0
Interesting. So why don't the Japanese resorts allow backcountry riding then?
Jinja 0
Because Japanese industries are a calcified entity where rigor-mortis of the collective brain renders them incapable and uninterested in adapting to modern techniques and methods otherwise established around the world. dane 0
That's pretty wild. Work for one of them do you Jinja?
Ocean11 0
Go Jinja! And to think that in the 80s 'Japanese management' was aped as a model of forward-looking rationality. Don't forget to bring your hanko, otherwise we can't do anything for you.
miteyak 0
What's all this "allow backcountry riding" talk. All the resorts can do is take away your pass, which, being as you are not at a resort and have no lift ticket, is of no concern to you. put on yer snowshoes, stick on yer skins, and go whereever the hell you like! ( this advice assumes you know what you are doing, of course. If you don't, get the gear and hook up with someone who does!)
