riddles 0
I have never yet done any night time riding in Japan, and would like to try. Looking at that Goryu webcam on this site in the evenings, looks fun and looks like there's no one out there it is so empty. Ishiuchi Maruyama in Shiozawa is supposed to be good and lots of courses open. Any good recommendations for good nighta....and more to the point, is it any good?
Ocean11 0
I'm tempted to risk sudden and violent death by riding off-piste at night with a headlight on and flashlights in my hands... Anybody tried that?

Matt 0
Sunalpina Kashimayari, just down the road from Hakuba, is definitely worth hitting on a nighta after a powder dump. A lot more of the mountain is open than at other Hakuba resorts at night and theres a bunch of friendly locals who hang out there. Theres a wide easy run at the top for beginners. Then two runs at the bottom. The one on the right has some great steep drop offs to launch from a couple of cat-tracks. The run on the left is officially closed but nobody seems to give a s#%t if you bomb it. Theres some decent pitch on parts of it so its good after a dump. The best bit is in the trees between the two runs. from the chair it looks impenetrable, but if you enter the trees from the top bang in the middle and follow a small ridge out you can drop to your left for a short run to the right hand run. If you head further out on the ridge, you can drop off to the right for a much longer run through widening trees to the very bottom. Theres usually enough light filtering through from the runs to see where you're going but it does get a wee bit sketchy from time to time. The hills open from 5-10 every night for 2000yen. See ya there!
suberiman 0
Best in Niigata is Ishiuchi Maruyama. When the snow is good (ie NOT after a day of sun) and when they open all the night runs, it's great.
dilgo 0
Ishiuchi is one of the best. They open up a lot of runs at night, when its good conditions, its really good.

xxx 2
We're out of season now of course, but it's interesting that Sun Alpina is a good place for nighta. I either love or hate nighta - after a dump it can be awesome. After a warm summer day it can be worse than a skate rink.
