jib is when you hit any man-made obstacle

with your snowboard (or skiis).

the obstacles are more often than not,

metal rails,

but you can also hit funboxes, concrete

structures, stairs, or objects formed from

ice or snow.

you generally grind or slide on the obstacle.

i kinda thought it missed the point of

(snow)boarding, until I tried it,

it's super fun.

It's also super fun watching videos of unsuccessful jibs. There's an example on that site that barok posted where a guy trips going down a stair rail and smacks his face on the concrete steps. ohmygod!

I saw another series, of people trying to ride around a curved rail with some predictable but highly interesting falls at the end. Whiplash tends to wrap the failed jibber around the bottom of the last pole of the rail. oo,ouch!

barok, how's the thang with the tables and the skateboard coming along? Still got your teeth? (you wanta keep them in good shape for coming to Japan - dentistry is an altogether different story here)
