f5h76r 0
Anyone here ever taken a ski/board lesson in Japanese at a resort school in Japan (even though you can't speak Japanese so well). I'm curious as to whether it would be a complete embarrasing waste of time or not.
nekobi 0
I took a half day lesson at hakuba happo-one last year. there were a few of us gaijins that day and luckily, one japanese girl who used to live in LA, so she translated most things for us. But it was pretty easy to follow the actions of the instructor and others in the class. if you can speak basic japanese, i think you'll be ok.
xxx 2
Bet some Japanese instructors would be scared to death Would be funny
brit-gob 9
Theres always a chance you'll get a spineless non-dude who will cower from you, but in my limited experience your presence will light things up and make the whole thing fun for everyone there. A big ice-breaker for all.
bagelz 0
I'm sure some Japanese in the group might not appreciate it though.........

jared 0
People who dont speak japanese work as instructors in japan and teach japanese people skiing - It should be as easy the other way around also ask around as if anyone travels (and learns some english) it is ski instructors. c.f. any NZ or OZ ski resort in our winter
scouser 4
Yes, but have you seen any foreign instructors in Japan? I haven't. (Although I can't say I've been actively looking)
jared 0
Thats what I mean - people who dont speak japanese (forgners(me)) work in japan teaching japanese people skiing. Its not too dufficult to get around the language barrier.
viv&kev 0
When we first came here, my viv tried to join in a Japanese lesson but they wouldn't let her. They didn't say as much, but I think it was because she could understand very little Japanese. An unpleasant experience, that was. kev
rajeem 0
That's too bad. With that attitude even if you had joined it probably would have been a mini-disater.
RamenTaro 0
I think you're either in for a real fun great experience or a nightmare like viv&kev mentioned - one or the other. Like many things here, no in between
nori-chan 0
I took lesson in English at US ski resort. It was fun, but difficult. I try to understand by gesture and moving.
Ocean11 0
I saw a skanky snobo neechan giving somebody a lesson the other day at 47. Full-on 7-Stars voice, and baggy black togs. I'd quite like to have a lesson from somebody like that.
