TokyoVerls 0
Can anyone recommend some smaller resorts on Honshu which may have a more unique experience? We have a few sets of visitors arriving in early 2015 who have already been to some of the more well known resorts (Niseko, Hakuba, Nozawa) so I am trying to think of a more local resort to head to. So the only place on the list is Charmant Hiuchi for a day trip, can anyone else suggest other places that may be more suitable for 2 - 3 days?
snowdude 44
Any of the shirakaba range of resorts in the Chino area of Nagano. They are all small but close together and all offer a different experience. You can find links to those resorts on the resorts pages on SJ.
Tubby Beaver 209
Minakami area in Gunma......Yuzawa area in Niigata

Nisoko 6
Can you define "unique experience"?
griller 9
Mt Granview's major now isn't it?
griller 9
Do you want it small or just different?
SKI 15
Oh there's so many! Just look at the maps on the Resorts section, the problem is too much choice. suppose you need to narrow down the kind of thing you want.
Metabo Oyaji 71
can anyone else suggest other places that may be more suitable for 2 - 3 days? Inawashiro area: bunch of small-to-mid-sized places in one area. Zao: one resort, but plenty big enough for 2-3 days. Plus snow monsters!
muikabochi 208
Lots of places around here - Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma - close to each other, though I suppose it depends on what you mean by "small".
NECK 14
Myoko area for sure if you haven't been there already. Not small but not big either. Suginohara and Akakan would be the pick of the resorts there I'd say.
NoFakie 45
If you're going to Charmant anyway, Myoko makes the most sense. Note that smaller can just mean smaller and less to ski. Unique and local character mightn't be part of the deal. As a guess, Zao is possibly the most unique ski resort in Japan, but its also one of the top ten (top five?) largest. Thundercat 60
Where are you travelling from? A day to Charmant from Tokyo isn't going to give you much time to ski... it's pretty remote. Ryuoo has a bit of character. Norikura (not the one next to Cortina) is kind of interesting too.

TokyoVerls 0
Thanks Guys, we were going to check out some of the resorts in Myoko then day trip it out to Charmant. I had also thought about Zao, it does sound good, so will look into that too. Mt Granview...well i'd be silly not to check this place out at some stage in my life now wouldn't I? beowulf 1
I do not want to say this place, because people might actually start going there, but Hakkoda in Aomori is pretty good.
