ozsnowbum 9
Doing a bit of research for the upcoming season. I'm living in the car again but trying to guage if its worth it to drive up to Hakkoda. Thoughts on which area has the best backcountry terrain on Honshu besides Hakuba. Maybe I've overlooked an area too.
JellyBelly 1
If I were going up to Hakkoda, I'd be trying a few places along the way like Zao etc. Though I'm no hardcore backcountry so not sure if that would suit your needs. A long distance though.
pwat42 0
Check out hakkaisan, also i havent been but Tengendai in Yamagata looks promising. Google Tadashi Fuse and Friends in Japan and there is a good vid, terrain looks awesome.
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah Ive seen that vid....it looks good. Hes in Akita, Yamagata and maybe Miyagi
NoFakie 45
I bet there is still a bc scene around Hachimantai if you're heading from Niigata all that way north.
Metabo Oyaji 71
Be careful in the backcountry around Tengendai, lots of cliffs. Someone fell down one and died last season.

pwat42 0
Hey 69 will be based in yuzawa for 5 days then minakami for 10 days
iiyamadude 6
Sounds like a good idea, though personally I'd do the 10 in Yuzaws and 5 in Minakami.
muikabochi 208
pwat42 has obviously factored in enough 'gondola riding time' for Tenjin. Very good research, sir/madam!
