gnarly-dude 1
If I send or receive text messages when I am overseas, does that cost anything? I'm on au if that makes any difference! No idea how the text thing works but interested to know. Cheers.
Thundercat 60
I think it depends on your contract. Usually, you have to pay. If you have a smart phone and send messages by using an app like iMessages or Line and you are connected to Wifi you don't pay anything.
gnarly-dude 1
Thanks. I have a data plan where I can use as much as I want in a month but that doesn't cover overseas. But if I am connected by wifi, I can still get the messages and they'll come that way?
Tubby Beaver 209
Maybe not messages that use ur phone number......but email, Line, WhatsApp etc are free as long as ur on WiFi and you'll receive them ok as well
Slippery Jim 65
Funny thing when I was in Europe this year, I could receive text messages from my iphone-using friend on my samsung note 3, but couldn't send to him. As far as I know, receiving his messages didn't cost anything -- or at least was insignificant. With a wifi connection, of course, e-mail etc worked fine. Just be sure to turn OFF other mobile networks setting.
scouser 4
Yes, remember to turn data services off. If you have done that and are using wifi, you'll be good.
