SKI 15
Friend of mine was telling me that down in Kansai, it's a mostly snowboarding scene - like 85-90%. For those been riding down there in recent years, Honto ni? Sometimes he tends to exaggerate!
Metabo Oyaji 71
Oh is that what you meant? The title led me to fear something gruesome.
Kansaiash 6
Definitely more snowboarders than skiers, but from my experience I would say more around 75-80% snowboarders. It also completely depends on which resort you are at.
onehunga 26
Last season I did 5 days skiing in Kansai and I would put it as 80- 85 % snowboarders. Not to many non Asians either, over the 5 days I saw only 2 other non Asians.
muikabochi 208
Reminds me of Ryuo this March (was it March, I think so). I thought I was breaking a rule or something being there on skis. Overwhelmingly snowboarding going on around me.
teikiatsulover 6
I'd agree that there are more snowboarders out this way, too. I know it's not Kansai, but specially when we go to Dynaland it just feels like primarily snowboarders. Hachi Akita this year felt more like 50-50 and there were a lot of guys telemarking, which was pretty cool. The insane Biwako Valley feels like only boarders who suck and can't handle the steepness. muikabochi 208
Dynaland and that area is a fave for people from the Kansai area, isn't it?
teikiatsulover 6
Muika, yes, I'd say it's a major resort for Kansai people. It's almost as far for me to get to Hachi Akita as it is to get to Dynaland, I much prefer Dynaland myself.
the snowboarding vicar 1
Do they cater for boarders better in any particular way or something?
teikiatsulover 6
Not that I know of, I guess more people out in Kansai much prefer an easy sport and sitting on their butts in the middle of the runs half the day
iiyamadude 6
Want to get to that area, out of winter too. I thought I noticed an increase in skiers this season here in this area.
Kansaiash 6
I've noticed the snowboarders (especially at Dynaland) tend come in large groups of friends usually 5 or more and they are university students or in their 20s-30s. Whereas the skiers tend to be a little older, usually family types with the wife and kids. Of course this is not always the case but a common occurrence in my opinion. iiyamadude 6
a generalization, but I reckon a true one!
muikabochi 208
I'd say generally its more balanced around here. Still more boarders than skiers though overall.
DCx3 2
yeah dynaland/takasu is the place to be for kansai people and good value for money. You can take a night bus and arrive at 4am then start boarding from 5am and then you finish at about 3:30pm and take bus back to kansai at 4pm. oh and yeah snowboarding is much more popular for kansai people
muikabochi 208
I wonder why that is.
