scouser 4
The World Cup might be on this year, but what's more important is the Premier League fixtures for 14/15. And they are announced today. This year, it WILL be our year! ^^^^^^^^^ Premier League fixtures: Man City face Newcastle in opener Premier League champions Manchester City will start their 2014-15 Premier League campaign at Newcastle. The opening weekend of 16 August also sees promoted Burnley face Chelsea. Louis van Gaal's Manchester United host Swansea and Ronald Koeman's Southampton visit Liverpool. Celtic's stadium is being used for the Commonwealth Games so their Premiership opener against Partick Thistle on 9 August is postponed, but Rangers face Hearts in the Championship. The postponement at Celtic Park means the club do not play a top-flight game until they visit Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone on 13 August. The pick of the Scottish Premiership games that are taking place is Aberdeen's encounter with Dundee United at Pittodrie. South of the border, promoted Wolves face Reading in the pick of a Championship fixture list that also includes Cardiff's visit to Blackburn. Relegated duo Yeovil and Doncaster meet in League One, where Fleetwood Town make their debut at that level against Crewe at Highbury Stadium. In League Two, Luton have been given a long trip to Carlisle for their return to the Football League after a five-year absence, with fellow promoted side Cambridge entertaining Plymouth. The entire Football League programme opens on 9 August. Tottenham will begin life under new boss Mauricio Pochettino with a local derby at West Ham, while the Premier League's other new manager, Alan Irvine, sends his West Brom side into action at home to Sunderland. Last season's Championship winners Leicester will look forward to a meeting with Everton and QPR's play-off triumph has earned them an opening day fixture with Hull at Loftus Road. Arsenal, who ended their nine-year wait for a trophy at Wembley in the FA Cup final last month, entertain Crystal Palace. ----- Opening fixtures (weekend of 16 August) Arsenal v Crystal Palace Burnley v Chelsea Leicester City v Everton Liverpool v Southampton Manchester United v Swansea City Newcastle United v Manchester City Queens Park Rangers v Hull City Stoke City v Aston Villa West Bromwich Albion v Sunderland West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

scouser 4
Louis van Gaal’s first competitive match as Manchester United manager will be against Swansea. The Premier League fixtures, released on Wednesday morning, gave United home advantage on the opening day of the season scheduled for 16 August. The fixture is the same as the one which greeted David Moyes a year ago, albeit in Manchester rather than Wales. Dutchman Van Gaal, given the challenge of improving the fortunes of a team who finished seventh last season, then takes United to Sunderland and Burnley, before a home game against newly-promoted QPR. Meanwhile, champions Manchester City will begin the defence of their title at Newcastle. Manuel Pellegrini’s men, who won the league by two points from Liverpool, travel to St James’ Park before facing Brendan Rodgers’ men at home the following weekend. The first Manchester derby of the season is scheduled for 1 November at the Etihad Stadium, with the reverse slated for 11 April. Liverpool start with a home game against Southampton – Ronald Koeman’s first game in charge – while Chelsea, who finished third in 2013-14, travel to Burnley. The Clarets, who secured promotion back to the top flight under Sean Dyche, then travel to Swansea before facing United at Turf Moor. Championship-winning Leicester face a challenging start. A home match against Everton is followed by games against Chelsea and Arsenal. The Gunners start at home to Crystal Palace, while their north London rivals Tottenham – managed now by Mauricio Pochettino – face West Ham at Upton Park. The third match in London on the opening weekend of the season sees QPR – promoted after a play-off final win – take on beaten FA Cup finalists Hull. Alan Irvine’s first Premier League match as West Brom manager is a home contest against Sunderland, who secured Premier League survival thanks to a stirring revival under the leadership of Gus Poyet. The other match pairs Stoke and Aston Villa at the Britannia Stadium. There are some appealing Boxing Day fixtures, including two London derbies. Arsenal are at home to QPR, while Chelsea host West Ham. Elsewhere on 26 December, Burnley tackle Liverpool at Turf Moor, Manchester City are at West Brom, while United are at home to Newcastle. Spurs head to Leicester, Sunderland host Hull, Palace take on Southampton, Everton meet Stoke and Villa go to Swansea. Stoke is Liverpool’s destination on the final week of the season, when City are at home to Southampton and United travel to Hull. The final round of games, taking place on Sunday 24 May, also includes Everton against Tottenham, while Leicester and QPR are set to meet in a game which could be significant at the bottom end of the table. Arsenal wrap up against West Brom, Burnley go to Villa, Chelsea meet Sunderland, Palace meet Swansea and Newcastle take on West Ham.

pie-eater 207
Wot no Wigan?!! I see they are all due to start at 3pm. Right!
grungy-gonads 54
Much easier - on paper, at least - start for United this time round!
brit-gob 9
Expectations at Liverpool will be much higher this year. I don't think they'll get as good a chance either.
rach 1
Would love to go to the first game of the season. Seems like a decent start for us. Let's see if we can't get 15 points from the first 5 games!
grungy-gonads 54
I sometimes forget we're still not in the middle of a Moyes nightmare! Then I wake up and all is well in the world. For now anyway.
grungy-gonads 54
Antonio Valencia signs new three-year Manchester United contract Oh....er, great. Hopefully if he cleans off most of the smelly mud from last season, he might find a bit of sparkle back.
scouser 4
Expectations at Liverpool will be much higher this year. That's the thing isn't it, people are expecting more. Big question as to whether Suarez will stay lots of gossip now. I suppose there was always going to be this summer.
brit-gob 9
As nasty a piece of work he can be, it would be a shame to see him leave the PL. He's pretty handy with a football.
grungy-gonads 54
POST BITING INCIDENT: If he's banned from internationals, in the mad upsidedown world of footie where sometimes you get rewarded for being a dick or being rubbish, you might even think that his value would increase for RM or Barca as he won't need to go on duty. Obviously the best solution is that he is banned from all football for a year. Or forever.

2pints-mate 0
United sign Herrera and looks like Shaw is next. I expect them to be back up there coming season.
grungy-gonads 54
And so do I! With Shaw, we're probably negotiating ways to pay an extra 5 million.
scouser 4
Mad cash according to the "newspapers", but still if it's over 10 years and he's a top signing... Rio was a record signing wasn't he, United got their worth out of him. I try to ignore all the cash stuff now. What do we know. Apart from the fact that most of it is bullshit, and agreements are complex and not just a cash payout, I'm just interested in the footie.
pie-eater 207
Again file under "what do we know", but United in recent years do seem to be somewhat... clumsy... in the transfer market.
NoFakie 45
I don't think you can ignore the cash in football because there is next to no chance that a Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Aston Villa, Norwich (third when Fergie first won the Prem, with Villa second) will compete for the title any more. If you arrange the Premiership teams using their wage bill, you get very high correlation with the final table. The biggest exceptions are at the bottom where you can have a relatively big spender like QPR still eff up. ManYoo were supposed to get Herrera for Moyes last summer, so it feels a bit weird them getting the same player now. It sounds like Moyes also did a lot of groundwork for a Shaw deal. grungy-gonads 54
ManYoo were supposed to get Herrera for Moyes last summer Yeah and they/he ****ed that right up didn't they/he. It sounds like Moyes also did a lot of groundwork for a Shaw deal. Is that why he was so shite at managing the first team? I bet the only thing he did involved in that, if anything, was be incompetent.

grungy-gonads 54
Nani admits he's considering his future at Man United: "I've other options. I'll evaluate when I get home. Back to Portugal? I don't know." Anywhere would be fine, Nani.
grungy-gonads 54
Nani: "I'm a #MUFC player but there has been some interest on my behalf. I will evaluate it and decide what is the most advantageous for me" Yeah ok. Sod off now please. (And can you take Ashley Young with you as well)? Cheers.
pie-eater 207
gg, you seen in the news that Moyes has been talking with some team, one that is in the CL. "I left United to go manage a team in the Champions League", a future Moyes possibly says.
