NoFakie 45
No they didnt and like I said I may have remembered it wrong but it was something like that. Maybe someone can go to their local koban and ask what they mean for sure. I think the ol' stopping distance is more like a square law one. So double the speed is four times the distance to stop. The reaction distance is double the distance at double the speed, since it assumes your reactions take the same amount of time to hit the brakes regardless of speed. Braking distance is reaction distance plus stopping distance, so it's a combination of a linear bit and a square law bit. and won't be 40 at 40, 80 at 80, 120 at 120. I reckon the markings on the highway are just an indication of how far 40, 80, 120 etc meters are at the speed you happen to be going.
Chriselle 158
I wonder if the people who were recently stuck on the Tomei for days were expected to pay once they got going again.....
cal 6
They should really be paying more, for all the time they have spent using them.

big-will 7
It really sucks paying at all when you are delayed or the expressway is well slow.
Chriselle 158
Just went to shibuya for the morning. Why o why would the Shuto expressway be cash only...no credit cards......ridiculous. !!
DoctorOctopus 2
They can't put some of the credit cards in their pockets!

snowdude 44
If this snow keeps up I wonder if the express way will close again, we are up to about 20cm now. Though actually the snow plows were out and about around Kobuchisawa station area. I wonder if they learnt from the last time to not wait until the roads accumulate 50+ cm and instead go up and down the road before it has time to accumulate too much. Chuo line trains were delayed this morning because snow brought down bamboo trees across the track. Maybe cutting them down would cure that problem, I guess no one thinks about that. big-will 7
Chuo line trains were delayed this morning because snow brought down bamboo trees across the track Very UK-esque excuse!
big-will 7
I was once delayed on a train in England. Reason? Cow on the tracks.
Tubby Beaver 209
Nasty leaves have also delayed trains in the UK
snowdude 44
Haha yeah one snow flake fall and the trains in the UK will delay! The Chuo line though seems to follow the Uk's example for some reason!!!!!
onehunga 26
Regarding the 0 40 80, on the Toyko end of Tubbies favourite expressway it's 0 50 100. Just noticed on the weekend.
pie-eater 207
So it sounds like you can go really fast on the road down there in the Tokto end. Smooth journeys to winter wonderlands!
andy63_5 0
I was just up by Nagano City on the Kan-etsu expressway this past weekend and EVERYONE was going about 120kph. I even got passed by an expressway bus going about 130kph. I was so surprised. Do all Nagano city folk drive that fast? I think the 0, 40m, 80m signs are just to help you judge how far you are from the car in front of you. I haven't heard of the Japanese doing the 2 seconds or 3 seconds rule while driving. timnz 0
So what is the fastest you have shot an ETC gate at and not uttered an audible scream? Anything over 60 and I start pooping it.
snowdude 44
I do slow down around 30 for those gates just in case it doesnt open in time.

634-maru 4
The Kanetsu Expressway doesn't go near Naganp city, so that's all very odd!
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah, you have take the exit off of the Kan etsu and onto the joshin etsu a little before takasaki to go to Nagano from tokyo

pie-eater 207
Kanetsu definitely doesn't go to Vietnam. But, going to Vietnam might be quicker than actually using the Kanetsu at times.
