Tubby Beaver 209
Did the yanks win? Chris, do the top NHL guys get to play in the Olympics? Is Olympic hockey THE premier hockey event.....like the World Cup in football?
Chriselle 158
Yes. All the teams are stacked with the best players. But, you also have to have a few playmakers to make it a "team". Some of teams gel together as players but some don't. Team Canada is often like that with an all star roster but fail as a team. Ya have to remember that all these teams come together just a few days before the games start. Also there is a lot of pressure from NHL team owners to not have their players risk injury. It's a dream for every young player to win the Stanley cup but the dream of Olympic gold glory is right up there as well. Yes the yanks won....although I think Russia is a much better team. But that's the way it goes in Olympic hockey.

Crazy!! I saw on local tv a few months ago that Sapporo might be applying for the 2022 or 2026 Winter Olympics!! (I forget which one!)
pie-eater 207
How much of the 'snow' there is actual naturally falling snow from the sky?

sapporo 8
Didn't know that Tubby. Saw in September/October time they were making some plans. Tsukisamu Dome (the one they built for the ice hockey) is being torn down this year or next.

sapporo 8
Unfortunately, nothing except for the city making the subway there!

NoFakie 45
The last time in Sapporo, they held the downhill on a temporary course cut out on a mountain. You can just about make it out in the satellite photos from the trees they planted once it finished. They're different from the trees on the rest of the mountain.
Tubby Beaver 209
There are a bunch of courses that are abandoned now, locals tell me they are from the olympics
sapporo 8
Downhill was held at Teine and Mt. Eniwa (Shikotsuko)
muikabochi 208
Wot no Niseko?! If Sapporo went for D'lympics, what skijo would they likely use? Tokyo getting the summer ones must surely be a - for Sapporo so soon after.
Tubby Beaver 209
Dunno.....I guess Teine would be used for some....maybe some tie in with Niseko
@tokyo 14
Niseko could be used for cross-country!
Chriselle 158
Hey Tubby... You could get an albaito by donning the kilt and bagpipes leading the procession of curlers into the venue before each match.......
634-maru 4
If they made a nice big ski jump, there would surely be massive new records made due to the winds blowing the jumpers incredible distances! BTW, is there a skijump in Niseko?
MagSeven 40
BTW, is there a skijump in Niseko? Only a small one at the hill in Kutchan. I wonder where they would find a course long and steep enough for a downhill in the Sapporo area, or anywhere in Hokkaido? Unless they tore down all the trees and rebuilt the lift on Eniwadake!? 634-maru 4
You mean there's no course long and steep enough, seriously?
