xxx 2
OK....beer or sake in the public onsen. Normally against the rules, or ok?
Tachypsychia 13
Haven't ever seen anyone drink anything IN the onsen itself... Seen people drinking water but out of fountains within the room.
xxx 2
I have asked a few Japanese friends and got differing answers, that's why I thought I'd ask further!
Tubby Beaver 209
Generally I thinks it's a no-no but I have seen both Japanese and gaij drinking beer in the onsen. I've done it once or twice but it's not the norm
Mac46 0
'Public'......best to ask, if there is someone (working) at the entrance. Have never seen people drinking in public onsen....but in hotels/ryokan usually no problem, but still better to ask. Cans only, no glass please.
KlingKlang 1
I think the answer is that it is not acceptable in public onsen and I very much doubt in hotels either. Private place, perhaps different.
Thundercat 60
In my experience it is not acceptable, especially in public places. All bets are off though once a few Aussies get involved.
sanjo 2
It's a "No".
