ProbablyaCrazyPerson 2
Has Tsugaike Kogen officiall renamed itself "HAKUBA VALLEY 栂池高原". Or is it just a crafty cunning plan to be associated with Hakuba in the ニッポンゲレンデ book I bought last night?
griller 9
Sounds like we need our famous member, Tsugaike Kogen, to help out here!
best skier in hakuba 5
Just jumping on the Hakuba name. Tsugaike always feels is suffers for not actually being in Hakuba. (And it's probably right!)
TsugaikeKogen 79
Tsugaike Kogen

Alexander L 80
would've thought there'd be a mad rush for the username : Hakuba Valley
surfarthur 22
I think Tsugaike Kogen might just change his name to that shortly.
Metabo Oyaji 71
That would be exciting.
Metabo Oyaji 71
But their web site still just says "Tsugaike Kogen." Don't see any "Hakuba Valley" tacked on. (And there is 2014 season info posted, so it doesn't look like it's out of date.)
Metabo Oyaji 71
Ah, I see it on their downloadable pamphlet. Not quite placed to indicate a name change, more like just there to declare that they are, in fact, in Hakuba Valley.
NoFakie 45
Dunno. I don't think it's a name change. The multiday pass that overseas visitors can buy now also covers the Otari and Omachi resorts, I believe, so this might have something to do with them being included in that. I don't think the expression "Hakuba Valley" means anything to Japanese people. fwiw, I don't think there is that much benefit to buying such a ticket, but a lot of customers come on packages and a lot of them like everything to be included because that is the norm for many packages elsewhere. Lots of people go on ski holidays without going anywhere near websites like this one or other ski forums, so they just expect things to be like other ski destinations. I went to Tsugaike a few times last year and saw hardly any gaijin. A distinct lack of BOOK NOW. You see far more at Iwatake.
stemik 14
NPD (Nippon Parking Development) with their subsidiary NSD have re-branded Happo, Tsugaike and Iwatake all with Hakuba Valley at the front. But i am not too sure if the other companies that own Tsugaike have rebranded... And Mr Wiggles is right previously it was the Happy 7 Pass(just Hakuba), then All Mountain Pass (Hakuba & Otari) and now Hakuba Valley Pass(Hakuba, Otari & Omachi) Free shuttle buses this year to Omachi (Kashimayari & Jigatake)
Alexander L 80
Are you Hakubans actually polled for opinions about this sort of thing?
stemik 14
i heard a rumor that NSD tried to trademark the name "Hakuba Valley" but failed.

One more stop on the way to Further.
pie-eater 207
Are you Hakubans actually polled for opinions about this sort of thing? Are they bollocks. (A guess).
stemik 14
not actually polled but sometimes i get a call asking "what do you think about this?" I think whatever I say it wouldn't make any iota on the outcome!
Alexander L 80
Yeah, and then they can report that you've been consulted.
