Picture if you will a poor little fat kid getting his first intercity bus. Its a 5 1/2 hour journey so he brought snacks. He is fat, thats what fat people do. Now picture him walking up to the driver

Yes, I can vouch that Ippy is a real person and a very messy room-mate!

Ippy doesn't have sex though. He finds it troublesome, or something.

Too early to say in truth. Dont expect too much mind you. Im here to save cash and buy time. This isnt really a vacation :) I can tell you a few things though:

1. Durian stinks. Never take it home.

2. Taxi drivers are jerks. Its just so fekkin exhausting fighting for the right fare.

...(lots of moaning)

6. Im not really a good traveller. :)

Right now Bangkok. Not sure where ill be next month. In Yan Nawa area which is south east of Silom (the business area). Its a few kms to the nearest subway, BUT theres a goddamned british pie shop about twenty minutes away. Had the best pork pie and cornish pasty since coming back to asia... well, the only one. But it was pretty damn delicious. The pastry was PERFECT on the pork pie, and though he apologised for the lack of gelatine, little did he know i ****ing hate the jelly in it. Yay! great pork pie. Nice and big. So stoked. Also, mars bars, head and shoulders, strawberry fanta that GENUINELY tastes like Red Kola (tubby knows). mac n cheese, and so much other british foods and products in the normal section of the supermarket is freaking awesome! Im trying really hard though to eat the street food and try new shit, but man, so much good nosh i havent eaten in years. Theres enough treats here that its like living in britain only without the miserable weather, massive rents, and asshole teenagers. :) If all you want in life is to chill on a beach in the sunshine in a reasonably safe country then save up a few years and you should be able to afford a decent life. That being said, what with my mad skills for research, the older thai ex pats are all off to cambodia and vietnam since it "reminds them of what Thailand USED to be like before it became the commercial cynical shithole it now is" (loosely abridged).

im going to hugely disappoint everyone in the world when i say this (or rather, default to type (eyes passim)).

I havent stepped foot in patpong, soi cowboy or nana plaza. Dont get me wrong, no moral objections to it per se, but im a romantic. I believe in true love! I also believe in jerking off for free over spending 4-5000 bhat on a night out at soi cowboy hooking up with a bar girl. And because im a massive mug and actually feel FLATTERED by street walkers in Japan propositioning me (as if they are actually thinking "i could have solicited anyone, but i chose YOU, hansum man!") I wouldnt stand a ****ing chance. :)

If i was with friends, sure i could just go there to "experience the atmosphere" or "see what its about". But because im here on my own and know no one, if im going there its for one reason. I cant hide behind irony. Best to just keep the hell away from it. Its annoying though because i really want to go to the night market at patpong, but i'm my father's son. And my father is a massive tsukebe. So i cant genuinely tell if i want to go there for the night market or just so that i can happen to be in the area and since im there anyway... my brain isnt always mine to control.

Bangkok and I don't seem to get along. The four times I've been there I've gotten sicker than a dog on three of those trips. Outside of Bangkok....not a problem. We went to Cambodia about 13 years ago and had a pretty good time for two weeks there. Venturing out off the beaten path lead to some interesting experiences... some of which I would now classify as dangerous but others were pretty amazing.

I've been getting the travel bug again and have made it a goal to take my new truck and go on an expedition ...I‘m thinking Patagonia as a destination. That's a big dream though and can't be done on the cheap AND....I'd have to get off this damned island first. And spend a lot (more) getting the truck properly rigged.

I really liked Bangkok but the only time I've been there was right after spending a week in New Delhi in India. Afer New Delhi Bangkok was like some sort of Eden. After New Delhi anywhere seems pretty damned good.

Chriselle I can thoroughly recommend Patagonia. I spent a couple of months down there way back in 1992. I spent most of the time hiking and mountaineering in the national parks down there. A truly spectacular part fo the world.

GN...It's funny you mention Bangkok as being like an eden....that's how we felt after being out in the sticks in Cambodia. And then soon back to Tokyo was yet another level of "wow".

I'm a member of a site called expedition portal and it's dedicated to enthusiasts who drive their rigs all over the world. Man, what a life some of them live.

haha....trying to pet the dogs?

Im not so stupid! It came for me like a wild animal!

(while i was er feeding it by hand and it accidentally bit my finger - poor thing. It was only a wee scrape though but broke the skin so off i went to the hospital - incidentally, i also learned that you can get rabies from being licked by them... which you know, i love doggies, so been petting them all and theyre all terrified of people so they love anyone that shows them a bit of affection).

Rightyo, ive been to pingpong (yesterday) and nana (tonight). Not half as sex intense as i thought theyd be. You can actually be a happy tourist in those places with the rest of your family (so long as you can walk past the sex toys and porn movies on every nine or tenth cart hawking their wares). Fun nights out. Need more people than me though so i can justify sitting about people watching.
