oo 1
If you thought November 2013 was too long to wait, bear a thought for Asian gamers who will apparently have to wait those six months, plus an additional twelve, to pick up their Xbox One. According to Alan Bowman, Microsoft's Regional VP for Sales and Marketing in Asia, the new console will launch in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and India around late 2014. (Note the lack of Japan on that list, we're still checking with Microsoft on that.) These are all regions that have been marked as gaming high-growth areas by Microsoft -- the VP added that the Xbox 360 became the top-selling console in Asia this year. The company's also pointed to its next-generation Kinect sensor, one that will work in "dramatically reduced" room spaces and, according Bowman, will be better attuned to Asian gamers who might not have living room space in their homes. tokabochi 9
They don't want to beat their "100 sold in Japan" record, so it seems!
Thundercat 60
I saw an interview with one of the Sony guys last night. After the big deal they made about Microsoft's stupid policy concerning used games it turns out that theirs is quite similar. You can only trade or sell first party games (those made by Sony) while trading or selling third party games (the vast majority of games out there) is being left to the discretion of the developers (the exact same policy as Microsoft). OldKarl 0
You sure about that? It seems odd that none of the media has jumped on that. None that I can see anyway.
Thundercat 60
“The DRM decision is going to have to be in the hands of third-parties. That’s not something we’re going to dictate, control, mandate or implement.” Jack Tretton
klingon 10
Not same as MS. “The DRM decision is going to have to be in the hands of third-parties. ippy 66
I just heard about the illumiroom. Its not quite as amazing as my brain decided it was going to be, but things are getting entertaining Its in its infancy, but its clear that once you start getting games with the kinect controller and you have 360 degree projection/alteration of your environment then immersion gaming will have taken a bit of a step. The next step of course will be 3d manipulation and once thats locked in, hooray! lawnmower man! Please have this all come together for internet pronbefore i die god! klingon 10
Microsoft has announced an almost full reversal of the controversial digital rights management features built into the Xbox One. The console, launching later this year, will no longer require an online connection, or need to ping the Microsoft servers every 24 hours to hang on to life. It will also now play discs like any regular console and no longer place restrictions on trading games. There will also be no regional restrictions. "The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold," said Xbox division president Don Mattrick. "Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray."
big-will 7
I bet Sony in a way regret pushing the point so much. Then again, people were pissed anyway so it probably would have happened without that.
