OK, so Quantum of Solace.

It's not as terrible as I thought it was - I think the hate took on a life of it's own.

But, it's just..... not very interesting. The story isn't interesting. It's like, who cares?

And it doesn't have enough Bond flavour in it.

Just doesn't work as a Bond film.

I don't blame Daniel Craig, he's allowed this miss.

The theme song deserves special mention. It is beyond bad, without doubt the worst worst Bond theme there is. It's just a bloody bloody awful embarrasing mess of a 'song'.

God I hate it, it's an unlistenable racket.

Oh, and that Olga chick is very muchly extremely  hadn't quite noticed that first time round.

So I've watched all the Bond films over the last few weeks, I'm going to re-rank them.

Final wrap up coming soon! ;)

Any of the early ones. The opening and closing credits were the highlight. A hint or glimpse of booby to a 13 yr old boy was ...... WOW.

Tomorrow Never Dies.   I actually liked this one more than I remembered as well though the last bit is meh. And Jonathon Pryce was indeed a rubbish baddie, him playing with that mobile keyboard ann

The recent Bondathon results are in!   And here they are.   Most enjoyable films: You Only Live Twice On Her Majestys Secret Service The Living Daylights Casino Royale   Favorite Bond: Roge

The recent Bondathon results are in!

And here they are.

Most enjoyable films:

You Only Live Twice

On Her Majestys Secret Service

The Living Daylights

Casino Royale

Favorite Bond:

Roger Moore. I know it's not 'right', but mainly for the memories and the one I grew up with. (He seems a real gent too, interesting commentaries).

Maybe Timothy Dalton if he had done more.

Daniel Craig definitely waiting in the wings.

Best Baddie:

Blofeld (general, I know... cheating)

Scaramanga

Max Zorin

Most sexiful Bond girls:

Aki (You Only Live Twice)

Elektra (The World Is Not Enough)

Camille (Quantum of Solace)

Daniela Bianchi (From Russia With Love)

Least enjoyable film:

Die Another Day

Quantum of Solace

For Your Eyes Only

Worst baddie:

Elliot Carver (Tomorrow Never Dies)

Gustav Graves (Die Another Day)

Dominic Greene (Quantum of Solace)

Absolutely the worst Bond girls:

Tanya Roberts and Grace Jones (A View to a Kill).

Denise Richards (The World is Not Enough)

Halle Berry (Die Another Day)

Better than I thought / gone up in my rankings:

Pierce Brosnan. Bit too cheesy in Die Another Day, but just was perhaps unlucky with the films he got.

Licence To Kill. Enjoyed it, Sanchez baddy was good.

Moonraker. Fun, if a bit too silly. Drax is fun in a very dry way.

Quantum of Solace. Just slightly better, not quite as bad as I remembered, but not really a Bond movie.

Worse than I thought / gone down in my rankings:

Sean Connery. Though he obviously created the role, blah blah blah, I think he is over-rated and he showed his contempt in his last two Bonds.

Halle Berry and Die Another Day. Not that it was high ranking anyway, but god she annoys so much. Sexy as a brush.

Quantum of Solace song. Just bloody awful beyond words.

Zannen ne:

George Lazenby didn't do more Bonds.

Timothy Dalton didn't do more Bonds.

Grumpy Connery and his contempt.

They didn't follow up the excellent Casino Royale with another good one.

Against popular opinion:

Judi Dench's M. Too much of her.

Lazenby's acting. I think he did ok.

Never Say Never Again:

Pathetic.

Special mentions:

John Barry for his amazing soundtracks.

Ken Adam for his amazing set design.

They both deserve a huge amount of credit for the success of Bond.

------

Wonder where Skyfall will 'rank in' as they say.

Well, for me Sean Connery was the perfect Bond; nobody else comes close.

I do agree he mailed it in after the first three, but those are the only ones at all close to the Fleming books anyway.

My biggest disagreement would be on Craig -- can't stand him. A thug with no sense of humor, no style, no grace -- an anti-Bond, a disgrace, an abomination, a total abandonment of the character Fleming created.

Agree entirely with you on Lazenby, and I always enjoyed Roger Moore.

And, someone needs to tell Judy Dench that acting consists of more than standing around looking like you haven't had a good shit in three weeks.

:veryshocked:

I suggest you give your head a bit of a thump, then re-read the books and then re-watch Craig's films.

Then, you will realise just how totally wrong you are on that.

Craig is excellent as Bond, I really dig him. Not in a girly way of course.

Agree about M. Though I won't spoil Skyfall for any of you, as she is part of that story.

I really really hope that for the next Bond, they do a stand-alone story with some mad-man wanting to take over the world or hold it to ransom with some big grand over the top plan or something. Doesn't have to be cheesy or silly. Just back to the good old Bond stories.

Rather than all these personal vendettas, revenge, resigning, coming back, becoming Bond, and all the other stuff we seem to have had lots of in later Bonds.

Skyfall was great, but I think it's time to get Bond back into that groove. Now that he is Bond. ;)

I saw Skyfall as well.

Really enjoyed it.

Lighter than the last one for sure, more humour - though obviously not Moore-level.

Agree with you Bag, a naughty meglomaniac is due.

Blofeld perhaps, I believe they have the rights to him now.

I suppose the biggest issue is how to make it "not Austin Powers"!

Some bloke called Kevin ( always a suspicious sign ;) ) had the rights to the Thunderball story, in fact I think he teamed up with Broccoli and Cauliflower for Thunderball and he co-produced it. He wouldn't let it lie for the whole of his life, but at one point got to 're-make' Thunderball as Never Say Never Again. They got flabby and bitter Connery back in and lined it up to compete with Octopussy. It was like an unofficial Bond - of course, extremely rubbish, slightly ridiculous in a sad and crappy way, Connery was flabby and old....... and Octopussy won.

Worth a watch really just to see how shite it was.

Footnote: Predictably, Connery blamed everyone apart from himself for it's rubbishness.

This is a good poll.  George, Roger, Timothy, Pierce were utter trash.  Sean Connery would always be the best and Danny boy after him.

Shame Judy had to go, but... she is a bit of an old witch.  Ralph Fiennes, now that is an actor.

  • 3 weeks later...

Skyfall was excellent, I loved every minute of it.

Too early to put it in the list but it's almost definitely going to be right up there near the top.

Daniel Craig, what a really great Bond he is. Even with only 3 movies, and one of them being Quantum of Shite, he might well be my favourite Bond.

A very positive big gg thumbs up!

I'm tempted to bring out the word magnificent, but I'll watch it again before bestowing such an award.
