NoFakie 45
It hardly compares favorably with Yuzawa (80 minutes) and Nagano places (a bit more). Yes, but as Yamabushi tells us, those places are "not "conducive" to backcountry skiing. cough cough Minakami cough cough Kagura ....
brit-gob 9
Perhaps the many traditional onsen in Yuzawa and Minakami don't "make you feel like you stepped all the way back to the Edo period". Somehow.
muikabochi 208
Hmm sounds like a tall ask!

BagOfCrisps 24
Why do people have to spoil their enthusiasm with cringeworthy stuff like that. A right put off.
Slippery Jim 65
Discounting the Edo bit, I thought it sounded pretty good.

JellyBelly 1
Not that I am saying yamabushi is guilty of that. He perhaps just like cheesy stuff.
Metabo Oyaji 71
As far as I know, yamabushi does not make any money from Hakkoda tourism, he is just a fan who lives nearby. That gives it an entirely different flavor in my mind than it would coming from someone with an economic interest.
1 4
All the more reason not to put people off with the whiff of cheese I reckon.

HighlyTrainedNovaTeacher 2
A place that inspires such poetry cannot be bad, I reckon.

blaster 0
Sadly 5+ hours doesn't do it for us. But the place does look good.
SKI 15
The other thing with Hakkoda is really that unless you live in the area, there ain't a whole lot of else in the nearby. It's not like, say, Hakuba that has lots of different resorts within a 10-20-30 minutes drive. Still I would like to go sometime soon.
Crunky 0
Been to Hakkoda last year for a week. It was easily enough. It's bloody flat, especially if it snows. Snowboarders beware and bring ski poles (like all the other snowboarders to get you over the flat bits). There were some great sections but the weather and the lack of steepness are two big issues. muikabochi 208
If you had soaked in the traditional Sukayu onsen, it would have made you feel like you stepped all the way back to the Edo period. Maybe.
