Spanish Ladies - traditional

Farewell and adieu unto you Spanish ladies

Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain

For it's we've received orders for to sail for old England

But we hope very soon we shall see you again

We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors

We'll rant and we'll roar across the salt seas

Until we strike soundings in the Channel of Old England

From Ushant to Sicily is thirty-five leagues
We hove our ship to with the wind at sou'west, boys

We hove our ship to, our soundings to see

So we rounded and sounded; got forty-five fathoms

We squared our main yard and up channel steered we
Chorus
Now the first land we made it is called the Deadman

Next Ram Head off Plymouth, off Portland the Wight

We sailed by Beachy, by Fairlee and Dungeness

Till we came abreast of the South Foreland Light
Chorus
Then the signal was made for the grand fleet to anchor

All in the Downs that night for to lie

Then it's stand by your stoppers, see clear your shank-painters,

Haul all your clew garnets, let tacks and sheets fly
Chorus
Now let every man toss off a full bumper

And let every man drink off a full glass

And we'll drink and be merry and drown melancholy

Singing, here's a good health to each true-hearted lass

Plan to kill great white sharks that swim too close to Australian beaches

Western Australian officials have approved a plan to pre-emptively track and kill the endangered species

Australian officials, under pressure to protect beachgoers after a string of deadly shark attacks, have approved a plan to kill sharks that venture too close to people in the water.

The plan, which was announced by Western Australia state premier, Colin Barnett, on Thursday, has infuriated conservationists and marks a sharp reversal of the current policy that permits the killing of sharks only after they have attacked.

"We will always put the lives and safety of beachgoers ahead of the shark," Barnett told ABC radio. "This is, after all, a fish – let's keep it in perspective."

Barnett, along with the state fisheries minister, Norman Moore, announced the policy change as part of a AU$6.85m (£4.41m)) package of "shark mitigation strategies" aimed at reducing the risk of attacks on beachgoers.

There have been five fatal shark attacks in Western Australia in the past year, prompting some residents to demand a more aggressive shark management plan. The new funding will pay for a fisheries department service to track, catch and kill sharks that get too close to swimmers, a study of shark enclosures at beaches, more jet skis for lifeguards and a GPS tracking program.

I surf and have been attacked by a shark but not hurt. Just munched on my board and swam away.

The ocean is their territory. We go into their territory and accept the consequences.

also do not go surfing when the mullet are running like i did. bad idea.

Leave the sharks alone.

They're Western Australians. Can't expect too much from them! They're almost as bad as Queenslanders...

I bet you wouldn't be saying that if the shark ate you

PS the state government has just passed a law that they can issue a kill order by professional shark fisherman on a shark that is loitering around beaches or surf spots.

What's bad about Queenslanders?

Seemed alright in Brisbane

My god are you kidding? Qld is to Australia what the deep south is to the US. Full of extremist religious conservatives. More kids in Aus get taught that creationism is real in Qld than in any other state. I refuse to even go there on holidays!

Nah ... just backward! :D

Actually, shouldn't say that as my nieces and nephew are all babnana-benders!

OTOH, my Ex is also there, so that balances the others out.

Some people think a culling of Big ones over 3M might be a decent compromise.

I just got my lobster license again and am not overly keen in getting eaten
