desu 1
This season I had a day at Tenjindaira. The weather (and me bottling it, slightly) kept me from straying outside of the little skijo itself but the snow was awesome. I was wondering about other places in Minakami. I can see the names of the places and where they are etc, but wanted to know what people on here thought were other places to hit next season. Cheers!
mina2 6
Nothing huge. Houdaigi is a decent place and I have often found really good snow there. Not busy either. Other places Okutone Norn But they are smallish places, nothing major at all. Little bit further afield from Numata and you have the places from Numata, like Kawaba, Oze White World.... they are on a bigger scale.
JellyBelly 1
I'd go a little further to somewhere like Kawaba or White World if I was planning on hitting that area. if you have car.
Tubby Beaver 209
+1 for Kawaba and White World. Tenjin is good but only really if you take advantage of the sides.....the resort is pretty small and crappy IMO
muikabochi 208
Especially if you can't see the magnificent surroundings. But, they do make up for it with the speedy Gondola and early opening.
Tubby Beaver 209
ahhh....the speedy gondola....you really have to hold on to your hat on that thing!!
pie-eater 207
.... once you have made it on the way up!
desu 1
Thanks folks. I have read the reports on here about the gondola and your day up there, muikabochi. Stunning stuff. Pity I couldn't see it. Anyway will think through, like the sound of Kawaba.
Tubby Beaver 209
just off the side at Tenjin is awesome......get a guide and enjoy awesome tracks
iiyamadude 6
I enjoyed Houdaigi when I went. a few seasons back, really good snow. Not a huge place. Was almost empty.
SwingingSaru 1
Tenjin place looks great would like to check it out. Love the way there seems to be a ton of places all fairly close to each other in that Niigata/Gunma/Nagano area.
muikabochi 208
Good isn't it!
tokabochi 9
"They" call a bit of it "Paradise Alley".
miller 1
Is the course down from the gondola interesting? The time I went, it was closed and I heard it is often closed.
muikabochi 208
Both times I have been to Tenjin it has been closed. I wanted to use it because skiing down would be 1000 times faster than going down on the gondola!
Tubby Beaver 209
no its not an interesting course, basically just a cat track that winds its way down the hill then flattens out at the bottom
SKI 15
One of the things about the skijo in Gunma is getting there. It's not really the place to go using public transport. Got a car and even then the places are spread about but it's much more do-able.
desu 1
Thanks folks. Do resorts not do shuttles from the Jomo Kogen shink station?
Tubby Beaver 209
yes there are buses from Jomo Kogen station, but I don't think they are at very good times in terms of hitting the resorts for opening
mina2 6
As Tubby just said. If you want early either drive up and/or stay locally. Really not the best for buses and the like.
2pints-mate 0
Tenjin looks spectacular. Really want to check that place out one day.
best skier in hakuba 5
The setting is pretty wild up there, must go back next year.
TheOriginalMyoko 0
Kawaba is a great place, not been as much as I would like but really enjoyed it the few times I have been. Sorry, not quite Minakami but that part of the world!
SheldonB 0
The area looks amazing. Just a bit put off by the getting around aspect of it where other places win out.
