Looks familiar but cant place a name to it. Will put on my thinking cap

Tsugaike Kogen

That it is. Named after (and co-developed by the owners of) Hunter Mountain ski area in New York, USA.   Over to you, Muikabochi.

Yes it is Muika, for several reasons:-

Relativly low Gaijin prescence....................I am selfish that way. This may change when the Iiyama shink arives in 2015.

Madarao Kogen Hotel is the best place I have stayed - ski in & out - great food, super friendly staff, awsome onsen, air hockey! - reasonably priced

Low key village but with 4 or 5 other places to eat out once you know your way around.

A very liberal off piste policy, in fact they encourage it and continue to open up new tree areas. They have a 60% of all runs ungroomed policy and even leave a fair proportion of the groomed runs ungroomed for a day or so after a storm. There's nothing like skiing a wide open run with 30m or more on top of a firm base.

The trees are lift accessable and nicely spaced for geriatrics like my crew and for old bastards the lift prices are in the Y2000 range.

Apart from that we have made some really good friends with some of the locals.
